5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Heater!!
I purchased this heater several years ago to heat a glassed porch. It does a terrific job--even when I leave the door cracked for the cats to get in. I love the fact that I can set it to only come on to prevent frost--or I can turn it up. I keep my plants on this porch to protect them from freezing in the winter and it has done the job. I also like that it has its own...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
I saw this space heater and thought it would be perfect. The problem I have with it is that the heat only comes out of a 6 inch area at the top of the heater, but it has a grill that would make you believe that the heat would come out of the whole front of the unit. It does get very warm and has great safety features, but it doesn't give off enough heat to warm people...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not up to the task, January 30, 2004

I purchased this unit as a supplemental heat source for a small bedroom. It was unable to warm the room and ran constantly because the heater was never able to reach the temperature necessary for the thermostat to shut it off. It only works if you sit close to it.

Unless you sit right next to it, you do not feel any heat whatsoever. Returned it immediately.

I love the fact that I can set it to only come on to prevent frost--or I can turn it up. I keep my plants on this porch to protect them from freezing in the winter and it has done the job. I also like that it has its own gfi built in. When I want to spend time on the porch during the cold months, I just turn the heater up and in a few minutes, the whole porch is warm--and it is a nice sized room. I would love to have another one just like it!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the right purpose, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Black and Decker Heat Wave Utility Heater (Kitchen)
This heater works great to warm up a cold room gradually and maintain a temperature. It is not a high heat output unit that works like you are warming your hands over a fire. Turning the thermostat up does not produce more heat it just makes it run longer until it reaches that temperature before it cycles off.

The best uses I have found for it are keeping my large garage warm in the winter when I need to bring plants in during a freeze and on winter camping trips where I can run an extension cord to a power source. In both cases I only want to raise the temperature to a reasonable point, not be able to run around in a bathing suit.

The thermostat and tip safety switch are my favorite features.
