5.0 out of 5 stars Ironing day is a pleasure....
Oh, how I hated to give up my faithful and trusty Black and Decker iron that I have used for the past 15 years or so...but we parted after my little iron was starting to wear out.

Oh, how I hated to give up my faithful and trusty Black and Decker iron that I have used for the past 15 years or so...but we parted after my little iron was starting to wear out.

I ordered the Black and Decker First Impressions 1350-Watt Auto-Off Iron to replace my aging iron. Boy am I glad I did. The First Impressions iron is a dream to use when sewing --- the iron has a large water compartment which means lots of steam. Steam is important to sewing as it helps seams lie flat and is useful for applying no-sew interfacing.

Steam, and a bit of heft, helps with daily ironing. The First Impressions iron does that too. Not to heavy, but heavy enough to make ironing a breeze and not a chore. Within minutes I ironed my cotton dresses, blouses and hubby's dress shirts. Within a half hour my weekly ironing was done and I was not all steamed up as this iron really does the job it's supposed to do.

Most of the time, you will spend about ten minutes clicking the little button trying to get the iron to understand you want to begin ironing, the iron seems to have such a high opinion of itself that it thinks you are done before you have even started. Most of the time i prefer wearing slightly wrinkled clothing instead of having to use this iron.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never again!, September 19, 2008

The first time I purchased this, it lasted less than a year. I replaced it with the identical model for it's retractable cord, but this one stopped working after only 3 months. This is an awful iron - please don't waste your time and money!

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked great first year but things went south fast, July 12, 2009

I bought this iron about 2 years ago when my 15 year old Black and Decker base model iron stopped heating up. I thought since I had great luck with the brand before, I would try another one. I was impressed with the cord reel and the amount of steam output and thought it worked better than my older model. After about a year of using every other weekend, this iron started ruining my clothes. First, let me say that I always use filtered water in the steam container so I get less mineral buildup and I also make sure all the water is emptied after each use to prevent rust. This apparently doesn't help either way on this iron as I get white particles in the steam that mess up my dark shirts and I have had the iron leak rust onto a pair of white shorts as well. The cord reel has malfunctioned and now it takes about 5 minutes to successfully get the entire cord wound up. I am looking for a new iron as of today since it ruined another piece of white clothing with the rust spewing out of the iron plate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Iron, October 17, 2007

We really like this iron. Of the last 2 we have purchased prior, this is by far the best. One of the features we like best is the vertical steam feature for when we change to our winter thermal curtains. It's great for getting the wrinkles out after they've been folded/creased all summer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Black & Decker Iron, September 24, 2007

We are very happy with this iron. It's a good weight and puts out a lot of steam. This helps reduce our ironing time. It's easy to refill the water resevoir. The sprayer works well.

Unfortunately, because of the larger retractable cord reel base, it no longer fits in the space provided by our NuTone ironing center.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Iron for Great Price, September 7, 2007

I bought this as a replacement for an iron I had that was leaking terribly.

For the price, you're getting a great clothes iron, and it works really well. I've yet to encounter any problems with it, and it heat's up very quickly and has several different steam options. I haven't had a need for the auto-off, but the retractable cord is more useful than I would have thought.

I'd recommend this for anyone who's thinking of buying it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad idea, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker ICR200 First Impressions 1350-Watt Auto-Off Iron (Kitchen)
I bought this iron last August. It stopped working, for no reason, by December. The previous iron I purchased, also by the same brand, only lasted one year. This is very disapointing because the previous iron I had to that one was also a B&D and it lasted almost exactly 15 years. But it looks like B&D must really be going down hill.
