Caution: Contains banshee,

This review is from: Black & Decker Infrawave 2-Slice Black Toaster
I shouldn't have had to take my toaster apart, but I did.
The first time I powered this toaster up I was taken aback by it's punishing, deafening, ambulance-siren-like wail. It was more high pitched than and nearly the volume of a fire alarm. The three piercing stabs at my ears were just to let me know the toaster was on. Really, the only purpose of the power button to power up the LCD interface to configure your toasting settings. 99% of the time, I'm making toast with my toaster. I don't really need an LCD screen. But even more so I don't need the god-forsaken howl of the undead ringing in my ears and waking up my neighbors. I searched in vain for a mute button, consulted the manual, loudly and frustratedly searched through the options (every change to the settings replies with an affirmative squeal) only to find that there was no setting which would disable the noise. Now, my ears aren't overly sensitive. I live on an extremely busy street and I like loud, abrasive music. But this toaster was made by a sadist. What were these horrific screams trying to tell me? That the toaster was on? I knew that because I had just turned it on! 5 minutes after you've used it, it engages it's shriek mechanism again to tell you it's about to turn off! Thank you, but I don't really care! Just turn off! It would be one thing if this noise were being used as some sort of safety mechanism like a smoke alarm (the sound of which is comparable). But this was the basic functionality, and happened every time the toaster was used. Clearly, this was unacceptable, so I was forced to disassemble the toaster. It wasn't particularly easy to do, thanks to a tamper-proof screw on the bottom. I was able to remove that with tiny screwdriver and some effort. To take the top off, I also needed to remove the toast lowering mechanism. I plugged the toaster back in and was able to locate the source of the racket. It is a black circle with a + on top, located next to the LCD screen. It serves no function whatsoever, so I removed it. Finally, I am able to make my toast in peace. Black and Decker: If you're going to make something that makes this much awful noise, please provide a mute option for those who find that alarms and sirens are the loudest things they want to hear in the morning.

Decent Toaster -- Toasts very Fast,

This review is from: Black & Decker Infrawave 2-Slice Black Toaster
Best Feature: It actually makes toast VERY fast.
Analysis: The toaster makes toast so quickly that the outside of the bread is toasted, and the center of the bread is still moist. I personally like the "standard" toast better, where the whole piece of toast is crunchy, but some people may like the toasted outside and moist inside. The worst feature of the toaster is the god awful beeping it makes every time it turns on and turns off. It beeps 3 times, and is an awful ear piercing tone. Conclusion: If you're tired of waiting for a toaster to finish making toast, and you're looking to optimize your toast making experience, then this toaster is for you. If you like your toast crunchy all the way through, this toaster probably isn't for you.

Fastest Toaster I've Ever Owned,
By
This review is from: Black & Decker Infrawave 2-Slice Black Toaster
I have only owned this toaster for about two weeks. It's very stylish and it toasts faster than any toaster I have ever owned. The toast browning is even and consistent. I would have given it 5 stars, but the display is a bit small and hard to read and it doesn't remember your last settings when you turn it on. Other than that I'm very happy with the toaster.
