I bought this kettle 3 or 4 years ago to use at work. I didn't really care about how long it would last, since that was all it was for. After my job ended, I brought it home and began using it there. Needless to say, I really grew to love this kettle. I am very absent-minded, and the auto-shut-off feature has never let me down! It heats water fairly quickly when it is full, and very quickly when it is only half-full. It is easy to clean, when it needs it, and it still looks just as nice as the day I bought it. I am also very pleased with its longevity, and am now planning to buy one just like it for my mother so that I know she will be getting a reliable product that she will love.

We bought this item in October 2005. It worked great until June 2011. A little under 6 years? Meh, I guess by today's standards, that's not bad.

I have two of these, bought independently, and both are leaking water through the bottom, one worse than the other. "Smartboil"? How smart is a leaking kettle??? One of them was turned on without water in it by accident, but went dead automatically which is good. After a while I was able to switch it back on again, so I thought it had some smart built-in security feature. Well, not that smart. It went dead again before the water was hot, and now it won't switch on at all. No help in the manual. I would get something else if I were you.
