Difficult to get them to honor their warrantee.,
This review is from: Black & Decker JKC650 Smart Boil Stainless-Steel 1-2/3-Liter Cordless Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
Black and Decker warranties do not hold up. The item started leaking two months after purchase. In order to get them to honor the warrantee you have to cut off the cord from the product, send back the plug together with a check for $7.50 to cover shipping.
You get to pay to get them to replace their garbage product.

One year and then rust,

This review is from: Black & Decker JKC650 Smart Boil Stainless-Steel 1-2/3-Liter Cordless Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
Actually 13 months. I picked up my kettle this morning and realized that there was corrosion where the plastic base meets the metal body on the outside. When I look inside I see discoloration to a greater or lesser extent all the way round the base - clearly this kettle is corroding from the inside out on a previously invisible seam. I had the previous version of this kettle and it lasted me several years before the base gave up the ghost but it never corroded in this way.
So good points: it does boil water fast. Bad point (and the reason I won't be buying another one) - surely a kettle that is so poorly manufactured that water can seep through a seam and eventually leak is potentially a hazard? And there is no way to tell if "your" version of this kettle will be any better - you cannot see this seam inside until corrosion sets in.

Didn't expect it to last forever,

This review is from: Black & Decker JKC650 Smart Boil Stainless-Steel 1-2/3-Liter Cordless Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
I had this kettle for almost 2 years. Pros: No complaints about it's functionality as it boiled water efficiently fast. Cons: I also, like the previous reviewer, disliked the fact that the top did not open all the way, so I had to be extra precise and slow to get a spatter proof fill up and I could never see the bottom of the kettle. The lever to turn the kettle on finally dislodged, not surprising as it's made from cheap plastic I expect that it was only a matter of time before it gave way to the constant pressure. This time around I'm looking for a more durable kettle so I would not purchase again.

Loved this electric kettle at first. Heated fast-perfect for a tea drinker. Then it started to fail. Stopped auto shut off. Called and got a replacement. Two months later, same thing. I've had it with this kettle. Looking for a different brand to replace.

I bought this tea kettle and I liked the design but it worked only four times and broke, I lost the receive and I had no time to deal with the warranty.I ended up buying a cheaper one that works good.

Tea Kettle leaks within 6-9 months,
This review is from: Black & Decker JKC650 Smart Boil Stainless-Steel 1-2/3-Liter Cordless Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
My first cordless tea kettles were the Black & Decker JKC650. My first one started leaking water at the bottom within 9 months. Contacted warranty support, had to send in a check for $7.50 and also the electric plug. Received 2nd one and within less than 6 months, this one started leaking same place. We have be very careful to not overfill, just seems like defective design. This time I'll send in just the electric plug and upon receipt of that, will receive a refund of my purchase price. Will not get a Black & Decker cordless tea kettle again. In Black & Decker's defense, their customer service was great, just not worth the hassle of doing without a tea kettle for a couple of weeks time and also the additional expense involved of mailing in electric plugs for replacement/refund.

On/Off Switch is plastic and broke in 18 months,

This review is from: Black & Decker JKC650 Smart Boil Stainless-Steel 1-2/3-Liter Cordless Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
Like the other reviewers, I liked the Kettle, and the way it operated to automatically shut off the power when the water was hot. This Kettle had a stainless steel body, but the essential operating parts are brittle plastic. The lid broke in a popped open position - it would not close - after a year, even though we never opened it. We always filled it up through the pouring spout. So we put tape over it, and believe it or not, the tape held it for months. Then after 18 months, the plastic on/off switch broke. There is the smallest little bitty tab on the end of that switch that broke, making the kettle useless. We only used it once a day, so it wasn't like it was getting heavy duty use. Typical made in China engineering. Since it's still in the 2 year warranty, I hope to get an operable replacement, but if I don't, I'll let you know.

This kettle failed after four months of regular daily use. A replacement I got did not work at all.

Worst Kettle I've Ever Had,
This review is from: Black & Decker JKC650 Smart Boil Stainless-Steel 1-2/3-Liter Cordless Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
We've had the kettle for two weeks. The top doesn't open all the way so it is difficult to fill. It is also difficult to judge how full the kettle is, partly for the same reason and partly because the clear area where you are supposed to see how much water is in the kettle is obscured by the handle and your hand as you are filling. When we pour the kettle, half the water ends up everywhere but the teapot unless you pour very slowly. You would think by now people could design a decent kettle. My other beef is that because the kettle is stainless, it is easy to burn yourself on the outside of the kettle if you aren't careful.

What a disappointment. I bought this kettle to replace my Bodum that had served faithfully for over 5 years, and is no longer available. I bought this primarily because of the Black & Decker name and associated quality of their other items. I couldn't have been more wrong. After only 2 months, the kettle started leaking from the bottom. It spills boiling water every time you pour due to the bad spout design (looks great, lousy function), and the poor quality plastic switch is flimsy. Poor design makes it difficult to see the fill lines, and the in-handle on/off light is hard to see. Save your money - don't spend it on this worthless product. I'll be returning mine and stepping up for another Bodum.
