5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL product for someone with arthritis!
I bought this for my grandmother who has arthritis in her hands. My grandfather used to open everything for her, but he passed away last year. This jar opener has solved all of her jar-opening problems. She only has to put the jar in place and press a button. She is 85 years old and usually doesn't like to learn how to use new electric gadgets, but after I showed her...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a heavy duty solution!
I just received the B & D Lids Off Automatic Jar Opener. I am a retired gentleman suffering from some tendon weakness, but am reaonably resourceful. I can open most jars with my hands, but every once in a while I come across jars that are impossible to open even using all the common kitchen techniques; hence the purchase of this product.

The first jar I tried to open was 'Del Monte Orchard Select Apricot Halves'. I have found Del Monte jars to be infamously tight. Anyway the B & D opener failed to open the product and instead became jammed making it impossible to remove the jar from the opener without prying the upper body up with a screw driver ( a technique that I suppose is not recommended).

After using the jar opener for several months I now find it to be a much better product than I first perceived. I have had to learn some things about placement of jars, but discounting my first attempts, it has worked well.

It has become a real help to me, and I am glad that I have it.

I bought this for my grandmother who has arthritis in her hands. My grandfather used to open everything for her, but he passed away last year. This jar opener has solved all of her jar-opening problems. She only has to put the jar in place and press a button. She is 85 years old and usually doesn't like to learn how to use new electric gadgets, but after I showed her how to use this one time she was able to use it. She said that it has opened every jar she has put in there with ease. I asked her to rate it and she gave it 5 stars.

I purchased the Black & Decker Lids off because it works, saving my aging hands the trouble of trying almost everything else, then running to the tool box for a sledge hammer! The only problem with this model is that the rubber inserts that hold the jars firmly, will eventually wear out, which makes the B & D jar opener useless.

Although this is a bulky item on the kitchen counter, it is a necessity for anyone who has problems opening jars or bottles. Fully adjustable for different sizes, it is very easy to use. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, MS, or any other condition affecting the strength of your hands, this is invaluable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job well, January 15, 2008

I bought this item as a present for my 83 year old mother who lives alone in another state. She often can not have what she wants for a meal because she can't get the jar open and has to wait for my brother to come visit (he lives nearby) to open a jar for her. She loves this opener. It does jars of all heights and sizes and opens them quickly and easily. She is the second older lady who has told me the same thing. These are a great tool for anyone who is lacking in hand strength and are a big improvement over the rubber jar openers, pliers and similar items of the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars B&D Jar Opener is tops, December 27, 2011

I had been skeptical of buying this product for awhile as I didn't think a mechanical device could win over beating jars on counter tops, running hot water over them or trying to get rubber straps, towels or other devices around them for leverage. However, my mother started having trouble opening canned fruits and vegetables, so I made her the guinea pig. She thanks me every time we talk and recommends it to everyone she knows. One friend mentioned she thought it was pricey at around $50. My mother replied that had she known the product existed before I sent it to her, she would have gladly paid $200 for it. I don't know the limits of the size jars it can open, but my mom hasn't met a jar it couldn't open. It was hard to find, especially for the price I paid, but now I think I will get one for me and cut down on the swearing.

Bought this for my eighty-seven year old mother. She was no longer able to open jars or bottles without help. The "Lids Off" gave her back some independence (I think she may have opened every jar in the house just to see it work). She has been delighted and told all of her friends to get one.

So far it has opened items that even I couldn't! Although a twenty oz. pop bottle is just barely too tall to fit into the machine, we had no problems with anything else. I just wish that all of my purchases were as well chosen. . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, November 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker JW200 Lids Off Jar Opener
I purchased and received Item Black & Decker JW200, jar lid opener. It was a replacement for my 11 year old one that was
just too old and so much used.

Give this four stars as there are a few too many jars that are a little to tall for the unit. An additional 1" in
height would have been perfect. There are not bottle/jar lid openers to accommodate the taller bottles/jars.My
hand pliers and wrenches come in handy except with wide and tall containers and if I had a third hand, all would be
A-Okay.

This is a very sturdy and well built small appliance worth the money, has saved the day when it was needed.

Thanks to Black & Decker for still manufacturing this little wonder especially ladies who have small hands.

The best price after surfing was discovered and purchased through Amazon. They did a great packing job and the
pack was in great shape and undamaged.
