I consider these lithium-ion batteries to be reasonable in cost and, as I now have three of them, I can get any jobs done with them.

The lithium battery charges about an hour faster than the regular battery. I use the batteries for my weed whackers. I have both types of weed whackers. One uses a regular battery (24 volt) and the other uses a lithium ion battery (20 volt). The lithium and regular batteries both provide about 15 - 20 minutes of power. Once the power from the lithium "dies" and it stops working immediately. The regular battery slowly "dies" and the weed whacker slowly stops working. As previously stated, the positive thing about the lithium battery is that it takes less time to recharge. I was told that I will be able to recharge the lithium battery more times than the regular battery. I have not had both types long enough to find out. What ever type battery you have, make sure you have 1-2 spares to finish the job.

Much better than the 1st generation batteries. Though it was not clear if there is cross compatibility with the 18 volt. (There is not) These batteries are much lighter and run 2-3x as long.....though you will have to upgrade your tools.

In their new 20V line of cordless tools, B&D should have upgraded (or at least made a premium battery available) their Lithium battery. This battery will only last 7-9 minutes in a blower for example, so you'd better buy lots of them. B&D still ships devices with the older LBR20 batteries which have an even shorter run time. Also be aware of the 8-hour charge time.

I purchased a B&D 20v weed-eater & blower. The batteries that came with it gave me about 10 minutes each of operation time, so I went looking for a bigger battery. When I opened the box, I was afraid I had bought the wrong item, because the Extended Run battery was exactly the same size and shape of my old batteries. I plugged it in and let it charge up fully then tried it. It worked! I got about 20 minutes of use from my weed-eater instead of the 10 minutes the "normal" batteries gave me.

I do recommend this battery if you are looking for more usage time from your B&D 20v devices. Amazon also had the best price when I went looking. Add to that my free shipping with Prime and it was a great deal.

EDIT: I found how to tell the difference. Looking at the label on the normal battery and the "Extended Run Time" battery, on the very top line, next to the B&D logo, there is the model number written in white letters on a black background. The "normal" battery model number is: LBX20. The model number for the ERT is: LBXR20. That "R" is the only visible difference I have noticed.

EDIT ALSO: After several months of ownership, I have found that the ERT battery works best when it is fully discharged before re-charging. What I've gotten in the habit of doing is running my ERT battery down, then the "normal" one down, then swapping back to the ERT. I have found there is a minute or so more of life left in the ERT. It seems that when I do this, it tends to last longer the next time I use it.

First, I am not an expert on batteries. But, I do possess an investigative nature stemming from my line of work. So as of this writing, let me share my findings based upon my investigation into the Black & Decker 20v Lithium battery line.

The newer LBXR20 is a 1.5 Ah battery. The LBXR2020 is a 2.0 Ah battery, and the LB2X4020-OPE is a 4.0 Ah battery (basically a piggy-backed LBXR2020). The first B&D 20v Lithium batteries (LB20 before 2012?) were, as far as I can tell, generally something less than 1.5 Ah with disappointing run time.

Different B&D 20v tools will come with different 20v Lithium batteries. Example: I purchased a LST300 Weed Trimmer that had the LBXR20 1.5 Ah battery. Before I used it, I noticed a sale on the LCC300 Combo, which not only had the LST300 Trimmer, but also the Blower for the same money and had the LBXR2020 2.0 Ah battery. I returned the single Trimmer and bought the Combo. So, it would seem different single tools or combo packs will likely come with different 20v Lithium batteries, or multiples thereof.

No 2 people will achieve the same battery usage per charge given the same task with the same tool(s). We walk/move at different speeds. Some people will prefer to have one battery that lasts twice as long, and others would prefer to have the flexibility of 2 batteries that have half the run time (one on the charger while using the other). Different strokes for different folks, and different use requirements.

I have one LBXR20 battery and one LBXR2020 battery. I have a smaller rural yard in a planned community, with about 250 lineal feet of edging/trimming around the perimeter.

I use this with my B&D pole saw, and I find it provides ample power, even while cutting hard wood and thick branches. The battery is small and light-weight, so it adds almost no discernable weight to the saw. It only provides about 20-30 minutes of near-continuous use before it unceremoniously quits working, and you need to recharge it. Charging takes a little longer than I expected (a few hours to get a full charge), but provides very good power. You can leave this batery in the charger after it is fully charged without harming it, which is a real plus.
