When I first ordered this trimmer I was a sceptic, as my experiences with cordless yard tools has been disappointing, but the convenience persuaded me to give it a try. The devices box was a bit mangled (the larger Amazon box was fine), but it survived the trek intact. I threw the battery in the charger, which does a relatively quick job of charging such a big battery, but do know that a full charge tends to take up most of the day.

When I first slapped the battery on and tried out the unit, I was struck with how smooth it was. At first I attributed it to sheer weakness, but alas the claimed vibration reduction does work, as it certainly isn't week. The overall balance is also a plus, as it makes it a breeze to control, which is due in part to the lithium ion battery. It not only means no cord to drag or get cause, but it also means no big heavy battery either. All in all it's a success, and I'm sure my wife will appreciate not having frshly planted annuals torn up due to the unattentive cord management.

This battery operated hedge trimmer is lightweight and has a design that allows for comfortable use. The blades occasionally got caught up on twigs, smaller than the 3/4" twigs that it is reportedly able to handle.

The blades never need to be sharpened. Further, nicks on the blade (as might be generated by accidentally hitting a hard object) need not be removed as long as the nick doesn't interfere with the movement of the blade. Nicks that do interfere with motion can be removed with a fine file. The fact that the battery pack can be used on other Black and Decker tools is a nice convenience.

The battery charger and battery pack must be handled with care, and there are lengthy instructions on how to do so. Some warnings were not obvious to me. For example, the battery should not be stored in a toolbox or drawer with loose nails or screws because these could short-circuit the battery's terminals and start fires. Including a plastic cap for the battery terminals could have circumvented this problem. It was also not obvious to me that it is dangerous to leave the battery charger plugged in without a battery in the cavity. If the terminals are that accessible, a plastic cap should have been supplied to keep fingers and debris from the terminal cavity. I found it disconcerting that the latter warning was not as prominently displayed as some more obvious ones, like "don't pull out the plug using the cord."

The blade sheath is made from thin vinyl and will likely be damaged after relatively few uses, especially given that it is not that easy to slip over the blade. A hard plastic sheath would solve both problems.

The trimmer comes with a two-year warranty. A defective trimmer may be returned to participating retailers for exchange (usually within 30 to 90 days). After that it must be taken or sent (prepaid) to a Black and Decker Service Center.

Unbelievable how great these trimmers work. I was expecting maybe 30 minutes run time with this battery, but I ran this thing for well over an hour before it ever started slowing down. I think that those who were saying that you might get half an hour out of this battery, were basing their experience on the Ni-Cad batteries. Believe me, the Ni-Cad battery can't hold a candle to this Litium-Ion. All my cutting was the normal type trimming on hedges that you do to keep them shaped up. I suppose if you cut nothing but heavy twigs with this trimmer, naturally your run time will be less. For normal cutting, like most of us do, this is a fantastic piece of machinery. It is HIGHLY recommended by this user.

It's lightweight, convenient to hold and cuts like a son of gun. I have a large yard and pasture land behing me to keep me quite busy especially during growing season. I also have seemingly miles of extension cord for various projects and equipment that I've accumulated over the years. It's nice to have cordless anything as long as it has the power and charge to get the job done.

This trimmer plus battery weighs a little over 5#. There are no tricks or concerns about charging up the lithium battery which weighs 1-2#. They recommend about an inital 8 hour charge. It inserts easily on the bottom of the handle, and a separate charger box is included. The lights on the box tell you when ready. It does get warm. Apparently, no risk of overcharging.

There's a cheap plastic sheath that one can cover the teeth with when not in use. Ours already had a hole in it when we received our unit- probably won't last long. The cutting action is smooth, and may I say fun. It'll cut through 3/4" branches/hedging no problem. My problem is knowing when to stop. So far no jamming.

I like the position of the handles and have yet to fatigue from using it. They're made of that durable, hard plastic that Black and Decker uses on all their stuff.

Finally, I remove the battery and keep the machine hung up high away from curious little hands.

No complaints so far, I'll update as the year goes by if any problems. And I won't be cutting my cord. Enjoy with good sense.

This works as well as any other brand and the blades are nice and sharp so they cut the instant they touch but what I love about it is the new style battery. It's so light weight and makes it so much easier to handle the trimmer. My old one has the big heavy battery and my hands have arthritis so it makes them hurt just holding it to use within a few minutes. This one does not. I can use it for half an hour and my hands don't get sore. The battery stays charged much longer too and it seems as if it has more power than my old one. My old one is just 5 years old and the same brand so not an archive....just heavier because of the battery. I feel safer using this new one when I'm cutting sideways holding it that way because it is so light to handle. I'm very glad they re-designed the battery pack. The long cutting blade lets you trim quickly.

The hedge trimmer is lightweight and powerful enough to trim holly, buddleia, ligustrum, and other fast growing bushes. It's really nice to just pick it up and trim rather than dealing with unwinding the cord and likely cutting the cord every third or so use.

I find that it runs for as much as thirty minutes and it is easy to change the lithium batteries. The charger is also well thought-out. It blinks when you put a battery on it that needs to be charged and stops blinking when the battery is charged. The instructions say to keep the charged battery on the charger so it will always be ready for use.

I've used it for less than a month but am very happy with it. I'm keeping my corded Black and Decker Hedgehog hedge trimmer for once a year heavy duty work.

This trimmer is just great! I use this trimmer to battle my fast growing ligustrums. The power is amazing and I heavily trimmed about 20 of these giant six foot tall bushes without the battery wearing out. I am very happy to say my gas powered trimmer is getting sold at my next yard sale. I no longer have to wear myself out trying to get that gas powered trimmer started. This thing cuts better, faster, and bigger branches than my old gas one. I am so happy I bought it and just ordered the weed trimmer. If it is as good as this I will be extremely pleased.

It trim easy shrubs nicely. However, it lacks power as it will rip instead of cut a 3/8" branch. It will not cut 1/2 branches. The charge seems good. It is light weight.

I bought this based on all the positive reviews and the fact that it was light weight. It weighs only 5 lbs or so with the battery in place. Well, I got a chance to use it today and quite frankly I am amazed at the performance of this thing. One does not get tired and achey from hefting a heavy corded or gas powered trimmer, of which I have both. The battery and power lasted very well and I finished the job,about 20 minutes of cutting I would say, with no reduction in power. The blades are very sharp and cut well. I spray the blade with a mix of oil and WD40 to keep it well lubed as I work. This is the best garden device I think I have purchased other than my little Echo chain saw. I am not as tough as I used to be so need light weight and powerful tools to stay abreast of the garden and still enjoy the work.

Excellent product - does a great job on my hedges and shrubs. Lithium battery is great -- long lasting charge and light and compact. Another seamless purchase from Amazon.
