I have a 5 year old model (JW200) which I love. It is easy to use & great for arthritic hands. I purchased this new version for my sister, because the older model does not seem to be available anymore, and am so disappointed because it is practically unusuable. The old model had an easy lever built into the top of the opener, and required little strength. This new version requires you to push down on the entire top, with great strength. Neither I nor my sister, nor her strong daughter, could do it easily. Even the simple release button is hard to engage.

This is one time when newer does not mean better. You might want to buy a used model of the older version, since no parts come in contact with food, and a used model could be safely sanitized.

I love this jar opener. I have no strength in my hands and this jar opener helps me a lot. Although its not tall enough for large soda bottles.

Best little investment in my kitchen. Although used only occasionally, wow!, what a great convenience. Never thought it would work so well, look so neat on the counter, and be so powerfull. Just, simply, great to have ready on the counter. Opens lids in a "snap".

When I get ill I lose my strength and cannot get the jars open. I tried those pop up kind and they wear out quickly. It is so easy to use and light weight. I store it in the cabinet pull it out easily and use it without difficulty. I even use it now even when I have my strength since it is so handy and easy. It was such a good deal too!

Small enough to keep on the counter top next to the toaster and coffee machine. Big enough to handle most jars up to about 8" tall and 4" wide. Place the jar, press down the top, watch as the lid twists off. As another poor sap suffering hand arthritis, this thing is just perfect. Enough said!

My wife is recovering from a very bad break to her right arm/wrist so opening jars is not even a possibiliy for her. The Black & Decker Lids-Off Jar Opener was just what we needed. It has opened every jar we tried, and we even use it to open jars previously opened that has been in the frig for a while. The only recommendation I would offer the manufacturer is to build a little resistance in the head-to-jar movement, perhaps with the use of springs. I gave it a four-star rating as it tends to "slam down" on the jar lid and could break either the jar or the opener.

I bought 2 of these Lids Off jar openers so I could try one for myself before sending one to my 76 year old mother. The jar opener works as advertised. It opens all different shaped jars even the gooey lid off the honey mason jar. If you have trouble getting tight lids off this really works for old and young.

My sister bought one of these and suggested I get one too. She talked about how useful it was and after buying one, I agree. No more straining when lids are on too tight. Just set the jar in the opener and push down on the handle and it's open. I also bought one for my daughter. She loves hers too. Excellent gift idea.

Now my wife can open jars that she couldn't open before because of her hand strength. Really easy to use.

This is a great product for those of us who are older and don't have the hand-strength to open a jar. Without this, I would have no way to get to my favorite jelly. The opener works on most jar sizes. I had a similar product for many years, before it finally quit working. After that, I tried various hand-held devices, both metal and rubber, without success. So then I went on-line and ordered this. I'm a happy girl again with my PB&J sandwich.
