4.0 out of 5 stars It's good but not the best
The Blender works very well, 95% of the time my smoothies come out with out small chunks of ice floating in them. This is a big step in the right direction compared to my old one. The food processor works but could be better, the grater is the only disappointment because cheese gets caught between the rim of the lid and chute, but the cutting blades work very well. This...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy! It sucks!
I bought this for myself for Christmas. Why this one? Honestly, I really needed a new one to replace the great $3 Braun I had gotten from a yard sale- the bowl was cracked and no replacement parts are available anymore. So $39 for a 10-cup, sure! WOW! Where should I start...

I bought this for myself for Christmas. Why this one? Honestly, I really needed a new one to replace the great $3 Braun I had gotten from a yard sale- the bowl was cracked and no replacement parts are available anymore. So $39 for a 10-cup, sure! WOW! Where should I start...
1. the bottom has suction cups; not helpful at all.
2. doesn't Black & Decker deal in power tools? Yeah, it was that loud!
3. The wide-mouth feature includes a regular sized chute but it doesn't come apart
4. where the chute meets the lid is a tiny area perfect for food to get into but it's so small the only thing I could use to get the food out was a knife so when cleaning it, you cant get into that area and remember the smaller chute that doesn't come apart? Well, can't clean that either
5. There is one blade for shredding and slicing. (One side for shredding- flip it over for slicing.) So even though you may be using the shredder, you also have to clean out the slicer.
In summary- I couldn't get it back in the box fast enough. Luckily, I didn't throw away my Braun, just in case...I'd rather have to cover the crack in my quiet, old Braun any day than use this food processor. A man definitely designed this, no question!

This blender is not as loud as a similar kitchen aid set up. My blender jar hasn't broke in half like another user, This is probably because I paid attention in middle school science class and am aware that pouring boiling water into cool glass will crack glass, armed with this knowledge I will not perform that action. Also the product is not advertised as a tea kettle.

For the price this is a good product if you want better you have to spend more.

When I tried to use the blender as a jack-stand while changing a flat tire on my car the glass broke, what a piece of junk.

Update: It is February 2011 now and nothing has broken. I don't use the grater on soft cheeses (ex: Munster; Havarti) and this is it's only weakness that we have come across. Every other function has been satisfactory. I'll let you know if it breaks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broke the first time I used it, February 1, 2010

My partner bought this to combine two appliances into one and because he wanted a larger processor that does more (until he bought it, we only had a little Oskar processor). Anyway, I wanted to grate cheese without grating my knuckles, so I pulled out the processor. I used half a "brick" of cheddar, and I thought everything went well. When I stopped after the few seconds it took to grate the cheese, I noticed there was a bit of cheese left over that hadn't been grated, and also saw that the blade was wobbling. What had happened was the disc stem had snapped! The disc stem acts as an adapter between the motor's spindle to allow you to attach the grating/slicing blade. I've ordered a replacement part (the shipping is more than the part!), but I'm very displeased. The motor is certainly powerful enough, but if breaks the next time around, B&D will get quite a sharp letter for an under-engineered product. Fortunately, the chopping blade works great. Only time will tell...not something I like thinking about regarding a kitchen appliance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chopping and Flopping, September 7, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker Food Processor & Blender, Wide Mouth Combo (Kitchen)
We purchased the black and decker Wide mouth Food Processor with Chopper at Canadian Tire. We looked at several and though
Well black and decker is a good name so why not?
At first I was pretty excited about this as it does chop and shred wonderfully but
then alas a few quirks ..
1. there are little nooks and crannies in the cover that you have to actually get a knife out to clean the food particles out.
2. I had the same problem with the disk stem, mine broke so I can use the slicer but the part that holds the shredder broke of so no shredding until I can find the part.
3. I find it hard to twist the cover off when I'm pureeing hot liquids it takes two hands to twist it off
I guess considering its only $60.00 I can't complain but not happy with the fact the stem broke off after only a few uses. And I like the first person will write a letter to Black and Decker
explaining a problem if when I get the replacement that breaks too.

1.0 out of 5 stars beware, December 11, 2010

I actually prefer to grate my foodstuff with an old fashion grater (which I hate) rather than use this crap. Clean up is laborious, the cup is flimsy and cheap, and there aren't a lot of options when it comes to grating any way. The noise is horrendous; the suction attachment to the bottom is useless and sometimes frustrating and a lot of the vegetables you are trying to grate end up on top on the damn thing untouched rather than in the cup. This thing is tiring and a complete waste of time, energy and money. And now I just wasted a star, as u r not allowed to give zero stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or your money, January 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker Food Processor & Blender, Wide Mouth Combo (Kitchen)
We wanted a blender mostly for making smoothies, but we were replacing a 30 year old blender/food processor combo so we wanted to get a blender/food processor combo this time around also. I read all the Amazon reviews and in general the blender/food processors were not rated all that well, but this looked like the best one - without spending hundreds of dollars.

The blender worked great for the first two months and then the plastic piece on the base of the unit that holds/turns the blender snapped off. This is a piece that is not supposed to snap off, so you can't just snap it back on. It was broken. We could still use the food processor, but there was no more blender...which we use 90% of the time. I called Black & Decker customer support. I was impressed that they gave me no hassle and offered to send a replacement unit. They then told me that they would put me through to a recording that would give the address I should send the information regarding the broken blender. The recording gave me the address, but it also informed me that I needed write a check for $7.50 to cover shipping for the new blender. I'm sure the reason they put this in a recording is so their customer service people don't have to hear about how ridiculous it is to pay S/H to replace a product that broke after only two months! Well, I was a bit peeved, but I sent the check to them as well as the other info they requested figuring that the blender breaking was just a fluke and all would be well once we received the replacement blender.

The new blender arrived after about 10 days. This time we decided to take it easy on the blender. Instead of throwing in rock hard frozen strawberries and bananas we softened them in the microwave a bit first. We did blend ice every now and then with the pulse feature, but we tried not to do that any more than necessary. It's been about two months and the darn thing broke again! Same exact place. Again, we have a food processor that works, but no blender. I was going to call customer support and request they send a replacement blender without us having to pay S/H, but I figured, what's the point?? They obviously have not improved the product at all and two months down the road I know exactly what I'll be doing.

I know that smoothies can be hard on blenders, but MANY people make smoothies and I would I expect any full size blender to be able to handle the task for more then a couple months without breaking. Perhaps these companies should try using less plastic and more metal. It would be worth the extra $10. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone unless you are a) using mostly the food processor b) blending only liquids c) okay with spending $20 +/- additional dollars than you paid for it shipping new parts back and forth and calling customer service every two months. I'm sorry to say, this product is a total waste of time and money.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like my blender/food processor, December 31, 2011

I have had this blender for a year now without any problems. I don't know why people say that it sucks.... mine is still running and in very good shape. It is a sturdy product and I like the safety features. About the noise..... which blender doesn't make noise? It has a motor!

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, September 1, 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker Food Processor & Blender, Wide Mouth Combo (Kitchen)
I got mine half price at zellers for $50.00, and it does the job, for the price. The only downfall is that it didn't completely puree my soup, so I had to go back and use a hand blender or my magic bullet.

4.0 out of 5 stars You have to know what you need it for!, June 30, 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker Food Processor & Blender, Wide Mouth Combo (Kitchen)
I bought this processor in June 2010. I was convinced I needed one despite never having one before, so one weary night I was surprised by this one. It wasn't the one I had picked out but I accepted it gratefully.

I have tried shredding cheese in it once and chopping a veggie or two, but it didn't work so well. That's ok with me. I have good knives for the veggies, I chop good ;) I use this for more complicated projects and it does a beautiful job. I make my own nut butters (forewarning, this process takes about 10 minutes, and that's normal for the nuts to release oil), hummus and banana soft serve (add peanutbutter at the end and top with caramel topping!)

Another favorite: snow cones! We put the shredding disc in and drop ice through the chute. It makes great, I mean just perfect "snow".

My only complaint is that the processor bowl is not terribly well made. My kitty knocked my first one down a couple of weeks after I received it and the whole thing split :( comPletely unusable! But it was replaced for free our local seller. I have had no more problems since.

I also happen to think it looks nice on the counter. Especially if you leave the glass pitcher on it.

The blender blends ice perfectly. The food processor works well too. It is true that it is noisy, but I am satisfied with how it works.
