The Black and Decker weed wackers with automatic feed depend on this part. After you go through a couple dozen spools of plastic string this part because of wear, or just simply not getting it on completely after changing a spool will break. Few retailers carry this part. Your choice is to replace the part or buy a new weed wacker. The new replacement parts are now black and more durable than the original orange ones. When you order you will usually get the black one, even though the stock picture of the orange part is usually used in the ad.

When this item broke on my trimmer, I immediately tried to find a replacement part at all of the DIY home improvement stores' web sites. Unfortunately, nothing was listed.

I received this item a few days ago. It was black instead of orange (who cares as long as it works...and it does). It was very easy to install, I simply twisted on the provided spring and inserted the new cap back onto the trimmer and off I went. Good as new and saved me from buying a new trimmer.

Over the weekend I ventured into Home Depot to pick up some lumber and stumbled upon the exact replacement part for $2.99 versus $5.80. Consider calling HD and save yourself a trip or more expensive online purchase. All that being said, it is what it is and I am happy with the item.

The picture of the replacement spool cap looked a little different than the original spool cap, so I was a bit skeptical that it would fit. Once received, however, it fit perfectly. It even looked to be made of a heavier plastic that the original one. Thanks!

This transaction couldn't have gone smoother if I were to go to the store and buy this item in person. The cap was brand new in the package, price was less than I was expecting to pay and the shipping cost was right. It was shipped VERY soon after I ordered it because it came to my house 3 days later. If you use your B&D string trimmer long enough, this part is going to wear out, as is typically gets scraped up, worn down, or cracked, when it touches the ground spinning at high speeds. There is no generic replacement for this part, so while it is certainly overpriced for a piece of molded plastic, there really are no other practical options. Fortunately the part is pretty durable, and B&D's system for automatically feeding line works fairly well. The spool does hold quite a bit of line, and you don't have to reload it that often.

Since you will need this part sooner or later, it might be a good idea to buy it at the lowest price you can get, before you really need to replace it. If you keep it on your wish list or price tracker, you might be able to get a good price and free shipping.

This Replacement Spool Cap and Spring for AFS Trimmer fit perfect on my trimmer and is working very well for me.
