5.0 out of 5 stars I sanded for weeks with this sander!
This is an easy to use orbit sander which can be used for refinishing desks or other projects. The 5-inch pad with Velcro brand hook & loop fasteners is so much more advanced than the ones they used to make. You can now easily change out the sandpaper when you need fine or coarse sandpaper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works great but poorly built
Inexpensive, light weight and works really well. What more could you ask for.... After only 2 hours of use the handle part simply fell apart. The plastic casing started to literally go to pieces. Maybe an occasional defective one that got thru inspection. Exchanged this one for a new one. Same story. I think the vibration is too much for the casing.

The built in dust collector is a real boon. Not only did my first sander not have one....it also made me cough and left dust all over the garage. This is so much better! This is a good little sander for the casual woodworker. I have had two, my dad stole the first one I had. It sure beats those belt sanders, which cost about the same price to rent. They also pull you half way across the room! Seriously, this it so much better!

When you are refinishing, the job will be easier if you use the paint removal products first. Look for the non-toxic ones. They are out there. Then let the wood dry completely. You will then have an easier time sanding. I found a 50-year old teachers desk and finished it to perfection. You would think it was new! Yes, it took weeks of hard work, but there is nothing that makes you feel as proud as a finished product. I am sitting at the desk as I type this. All thanx to a great sander.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just won't quit!, January 4, 2000
This review is from: Black & Decker RO100 5-Inch Palm Grip Random Orbit Sander (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this sander over two years ago, at a time when I needed a new one in a hurry and didn't have a lot to spend. I thought it would be a "throw-away" that wouldn't last. I was wrong! This little sander is comfortable in my hand and well built. All this time, and many projects later it still runs like new. I doubt I would be happier with the sanders costing twice as much!

UPDATE: It has now been 5 years since I bought this sander and it is still going strong. I have not had any of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. My sander doesn't vibrate excessively, my housing/handle didn't crack apart, and it has plenty of power (albeit not as much power as a sander costing 2-3 times as much).

5.0 out of 5 stars More than I expected, August 22, 2001

I bought this sander based on price. I thought it would help with a specific project and perhaps I would buy a "better" one later. I found this to be a great sander. It's powerful, yet smooth and I have even used it with 200 grit to sand BETWEEN coats. Now the only sander I plan to buy is something like a Mouse to get into corners

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for a cheap RO sander, January 11, 2005

I bought this sander a while back and it's OK, but I probably wouldn't buy it again. The dust collection bag leaks dust visibly: you can see fine dust draining through the filter cloth. It sands OK and has adequate power for most of my work, but the one I bought had a warped plastic housing. This lifted the gasket between the pad and the sander body resulting in a spray of dust back at me. Although that problem is fixed, it still sprays dust if you don't apply uniform pressure to the pad. If you hook the dust port to a shop vac, it's OK, but the built-in dust collection is anemic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!, January 18, 2003

Don't throw away your money! I purchased this as a backup sander to my makita ros. Any pressure placed on this sander other than its own weight will greatly decline the rpm's. After just a few hours, this sander lost all of what power it had and it now resides in the trash. It's loud and it has a terrible vibration. Take it from me, spend a few more dollars and get a makita! B & D's are nothing by throwaway tools.
