1.0 out of 5 stars The Scummiest Handheld Tool I Own!
I bought the scumbuster a few years ago and have used it several times. I should have returned it. I use no less elbow-grease than I did before and have to continually re-charge batteries. It's easier, faster, and CHEAPER to just use a can of Scrubbing Bubbles and one of those extra-gentle scouring pads. Honestly, this was a waste money!

I'm a poor college kid and I hate cleaning. But I knew I had to do something when I saw a colony of bacteria forming it's own government in the corner of my shower. So I got the Scumbuster. I love this thing!

It wiped out that colony in a heartbeat. I did the whole tub in about 5 minutes. It used to take me 20 and my arm and back would hurt when I was done. The scumbuster even got rid of that nasty gunk between the tiles in the shower.

I then did hte toilet which was also disgusting and it cleaned it right up in about 3 minutes. I cleaned the sink and it now shines.

I also used my Scumbuster on the kitchen stove. I made Spaghetti a few weeks ago and the sauce splattered everywhere. I didn't clean it out of spite. But i used my scumbuster and it was no problem.

Basically, you can use this thing anywhere you'd use a sponge. And you can use any cleaner you want. I used Soft Scrub and Windex in the bathroom and kitchen.

The only bad part is that when you get it you'll probably all ready to clean - you know, you're in the zone! But you have to wait 6 hours for the battery to charge before you can do anything. After that it's all good.

Each scrubber is incredibly easy to put on and take off. In fact the whole thing is easy to use. I only read the directions once to see how long the battery had to charge. Other than that, it's all self-explanatory.

Also, I love the color of the Scumbuster!

5.0 out of 5 stars 21st century cleaning gizmo does the grunt work! Woo Hoo!, January 8, 2002
This review is from: Black & Decker S300 ScumBuster Cordless Wet Scrubber (Kitchen)
I first tried the scumbuster (SB) in my shower stall, a job I had put off too long. The heavier (blue) scrub pad didn't help that much, but then I tried the brushes, applied a little pressure, and held the device in the same place for a few seconds before moving on to new areas, and voila, I started seeing results like magic! It didn't do a perfect job, but I did see about 90% improvement. The scrub pads worked well on the glass shower door, however. Then I tried this gizmo on sinks, countertops, and pots, and also got very good results. The SB spins at 120 to 185 RPM, which is a lot faster than I normally clean over a sustained duration. I find the SB easy to hold, use, and change attachments (comes with a 4-inch coarse scrub pad, 4-inch mild scrub pad, a 3-inch area flat brush, and a smaller detail brush). It's submersible, and I like the aqua blue color. I also find it fun to use and time saving, so it's cured me of my cleaning procrastination problem! For best results, wet the surface, apply the cleaning agent, then allow it to sit for a few minutes to work on the grime before you go at it with the SB (or by hand).

After purchasing the S300, I found out there's an S400, which comes with 8 attachments, and an S500, which comes with 10 attachments. I called Black and Decker, and found out those are the exact same appliance, with the only difference being the number of accessories and a carrying caddy (which I haven't been able to find separately). Attachments are readily available on the internet (and in some stores), and include a dome bristle brush, wire bristle brush, lemon scented soap pads, automotive accessories, and barbeque scrubbing tools. The SB runs on a rechargeable battery pack that holds a charge for ˝ hour and can be used in other Black and Decker appliances. (I think it's rather skimpy to have a battery pack that only runs ˝ hour, so ˝ star deduction.) If you want to run the appliance longer than 30 minutes, you can buy an additional silver colored charger, or a gold color charger with a 60% longer run time.

Bottom line: I wish I had purchased the S400 or the S500 with the carry caddy and more attachments. However, I'm happy with the S300 and feel like I have a whole staff of cleaning elves to help me with the grunt work. :-)

I kept looking at this product on your web site, but hesitated to buy it because of the other review that rates it the "scummiest handheld tool I own." Well, I'm so glad that I didn't listen and purchased it, anyway, because I LOVE it! In my pre-ScumBuster days, I avoided scrubbing the tub and tile at all costs. . .now I faithfully whip out the ScumBuster once a week. My grout has never looked so good. I highly recommend this to anyone that doesn't enjoy bathroom cleaning. It will change your mind completely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who are you gonna call? Scumbusters!, May 25, 2001

This review is from: Black & Decker S300 ScumBuster Cordless Wet Scrubber (Kitchen)
I finally received the scumbuster after putting it on my wish list last year. I must say that this little tool is fantastic. It takes most of the hassle out of scrubbing the tubs and sinks provided that you remember to have the battery charged ahead of time.

The unit itself looks like it belongs in a futuristic movie. The scumbuster is covered in a grippy aqua-colored layer that will not slip out of your hand even when soaked or underwater. Since its easy to hold onto, it makes using the device relatively easy. The variety of brushes are handy for cracks, crevices, and corners as well as the larger brushes for cleaning the large smooth areas of the tub. The scumbuster makes cleaning the sides of the tub (which are normally hard to apply enough pressure to clean effectively) easy. I even used the Scumbuster to clean the tile grouting on top of the kitchen countertop. The one drawback is that if you are scumbusting for a long time, it doesn't matter how easy the scumbuster is to hold, the unit just feels clumsy when the forearm and hand fatigues. And lets face it, most bathrooms require more scrubbing than just light cleaning (especially when you have small kids around the house in the summertime). Despite the fatigue factor, the Scumbuster did very well in the different places I've used it on for heavy or light cleaning.

Overall, I am very pleased with the unit and glad to have an easier way to clean up the tub. For the price, its well worth avoiding the development of shoulder and wrist problems as a result of hand cleaning tubs and sinks. I highly recommend the Scumbuster to take care of your tub and tile scum and grime.

1.0 out of 5 stars Scumbuster: Am I Missing Something??, September 23, 2000
This review is from: Black & Decker S300 ScumBuster Cordless Wet Scrubber (Kitchen)
I bought this tool on the recommendation of a trusted advisor, who absolutely loves hers. It has a slow turning motor, and minimal battery life, even using the "60% Longer Life" (NOT INCLUDED) batteries. Using several different attachments and cleaning solutions, I was unable to any better job removing soap scum from ceramic tile than with a scouringpad-backed-sponge and my hand. The concept is sound, but the tool is, in my opinion, weak and practically ineffective. If they made an "Industrial Model", with a 12 or 18 volt battery pack (instead of the dinky 3.6v), that would be a tool worth having. Save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scumbuster --B&D's best-kept secret!, December 10, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker S300 ScumBuster Cordless Wet Scrubber (Kitchen)
This is the most useful cleaning tool I own. A multitude of brushes and pads snap on to clean anything including the kitchen sink: walls, dishes, bathtub, counters, cabinets, and the ring on the toilet. Gently clean painted surfaces, or strip off nasty old paint with grease remover and the coarse pads. Why do you not know what I'm talking about? This is the best-kept secret Black and Decker ever had. You may find a scumbuster in a (store) --but ask a salesperson and you'll most likely receive an open-mouthed "huh". If you get lucky you may even find some accessories at (a store) (you'll quickly want two batteries just for starters; the hour or so you get on a charge won't begin to cover the uses you'll find). Amazon's one of the few places on the Web where you can find a Scumbuster, and you have to tweak its search engine to "all products" or it will tell you there's no such thing. This nifty tool makes a GREAT gift for people who love or hate to clean, car nuts, and just about anyone. Shame on you, B&D, for hiding your best invention ever!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Scumbuster, October 30, 2000

While this machine was not the miracle worker that I thought it would be, it has definetly helped me in the bathroom. I no longer finish scrubbing the bathtub with a severe backache--it has taken the gruntwork out of cleaning for me. For truly ground in stains, I found that I still needed to soak the surface with cleaning products for about fifteen minutes or the scumbuster did no good.

I was extremely excited to receive this product but was quickly disappointed when I used it for the first time. I was hoping to either save a little time when cleaning the bathroom or at least saving some energy. I wasn't able to do either. The rotation speed of the cleaning head is very slow so it doesn't seem to do that great a job. I can do a better job on most areas by hand.

The only thing I found the ScumBuster good for are the corners of tiled areas. Using the narrow brush it's easy to clean the areas which are difficult to get by hand. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend my money on this item!

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent tool, but don't expect miracles..., October 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker S300 ScumBuster Cordless Wet Scrubber (Kitchen)
You will likely be disappointed if you buy a Scumbuster expecting it to "power off" soil and grime. However, this is definitely a worthwhile tool to own if you want to save wear and tear on yourself! I have tendinitis in my right elbow which flares up with a lot of hard, repetitive movement (like scrubbing). With the Scumbuster I am able to just sweep it over a surface and the tool does the "scrubbing" part for me. I've even used it left-handed. Therefore the bathroom, etc. actually gets cleaned more often! Actually my main concern about the Scumbuster is where to get replacement sponges and brushes -- I haven't seen them for sale anywhere....
