A good starter model, the 1200-watt Black & Decker Quickpress spray iron has all-in-one controls and easy wet-dry versatility. Though not as powerful or as impervious as higher-end models, the iron offers helpful features for basic ironing. The controls are on the handle and automatically generate steam based on heat setting, so you only have to make one setting selection. A spray button also lets you spritz clothes as you iron creases or stubborn wrinkles. The water reservoir fills through a wide-mouth open hatch, and a view-window lets you track the tank level. The iron has an aluminum soleplate, making it very lightweight, and a button groove that allows you to iron right up under buttons. Black & Decker also built in the Auto Clean Steam Valve to prevent build-up of mineral deposit and lint. One thing to note: the power cord on this iron does contain lead. Measuring 10-1/2 by 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches, the Quickpress comes with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

A fine product from a fine house,

I have had good experiences with black & decker and this item is no exception. Its seven settings, listed by material, are easy to read and use. I have had the iron for the same amount of time as the previous reviewer but have experienced no such problems.

Poorly Made Iron,

We bought this iron because it seemed like a decent choice for the price. However, after having it three years (and using it very rarely), it began to break down and we now have to throw it away. The non-stick coating on the iron plate is unpeeling, which turns into little black balls on your clothes as you iron (not nice on a dress shirt). Also, when I press the steam button, rusty water comes out of the steam holes, staining the clothes. They must have used parts on the inside that rust over time. Spend a little more money and get a better iron - it saddens me to have to fill the landfill with poorly-produced junk like this.
