Black & Decker, long known as a maker of quality tools, brings that same dependability to the kitchen in its line of countertop appliances, such as the T1029 Classic Chrome toaster. This two-slice toaster is a modern-looking appliance, with a curved body built of sturdy, matte-finished black plastic and gleaming chrome. It's also built for safety and countertop stability, with rubberized nonskid feet and an automatic shut-off function in case toast gets stuck while the heating elements are active.

As with most modern toasters, the T1029 toaster fits two slices of bread up to bagel width; automatic guides cradle the slice to keep it perpendicular to the heating elements during toasting. What's unusual about this model, though, are its settings for Frozen or Bagel modes of toasting; each is calibrated to give the right bursts of heat needed to first thaw and then toast or, for sliced bagels, to crisply toast the surface of the bagel without charring or drying out the soft interior. (the Bagel setting's good for English muffins, too.) There's a dial for the regular toast setting; Frozen and Bagel modes are selected by pressing light-up buttons, with a cancel button for deselecting them. A removable crumb tray, which fits into the toaster housing like a secret drawer, slides out for easy cleaning.

After tapping crumbs from the removable crumb tray, rinse and dry completely before replacing in toaster. Unplug toaster and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. The toaster is not immersible. Wipe the toaster clean with a mild detergent and a damp, nonabrasive sponge or cloth; rinse and dry completely. The T1029 toaster measures 11-1/2 by 7 by 8 inches. Black & Decker includes a detailed instruction sheet and a one-year limited warranty against materials or workmanship. --Garland Withers

I didn't think anybody made a decent toaster anymore but this one is great. It browns evenly on BOTH sides of the bread and there is even a cancel button if you want to check the degree of brownness. There is an extra wide slot for bagels and pastry. The instruction manual gives advice on even toasting frozen bagels and pastries. The body is good quality chrome for easy cleaning. This is my second Black and Decker appliance and I love them both. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this toaster based on the brand name and the combination of features and looks. So far (its been 6 months) I could not be more pleased. The slots are nice and wide to accommodate bagels and I really like the "frozen food" button that allows you to tell the toaster if the item is frozen or thawed. I have found that this unit is fast and toasts food evenly.

As for the design, I love this classic look because it reminds me of the metal toasters I grew up with. For once there is a "retro" product that seems like it will pass the test of time! Highly recommended!

If you want the retro look and a super toaster.....this is the one for you. Toasts perfectly and looks great! I've had it about 4 months with no problems whatsoever.
