It looks very nice and works well.

The toaster is so useless I will probably just throw it in the trash now that I have a toaster oven.

After three months of use half of the toaster stopped working.

I bought this toaster to replace my 14 year old Procter Silex toaster, which still works great, but had some issues that were starting to annoy me. I looked at this and a Cuisinart model, but decided to go with the Black and Decker because it looked more attractive. I must say that I am not dissapointed thus far. I love the bagel, defrost and reheat settings! My old toaster had wide slots, but the ones on the Black and Decker are larger, so they will do better with toasting bagels. Another thing I love about this toaster is that when you choose the "bagel" setting it only browns one side of the bagel. How cool is that?! The other cool feature of this toaster is the lift up feature. My old toaster required me to break out the untensils to get the bagels out, so this is really a plus. The only reason why I am giving this toaster a 4 and not a 5 is because it doesn't appear to have the cool touch feature. The sides of the toaster get pretty hot. Other then that this toaster is well worth the $$$.

By the way, the product description indicates that this is a 1400 watt toaster. That is incorrect. It is 850 watts. So, those that maintain this site might want to update the description. My old toaster was 900 watts and this outperforms it by a mile.

Impulse buy (my old toaster still worked, just didn't look cool)
I like this toaster's retro deco look. Nice wide slots, the cancel button so you can rescue toast that is about to burn without having to force the handle up. It does get hot on the outside (my other toaster was cool to the touch on the outside), but I don't have small children who could get burnt anymore (and I simply avoid touching the thing myself).

Note: before toasting anything in this one, turn it up to a high setting and push down the leaver to burn off the "manufacturing" smell or you'll get toast that tastes like burnt plastic.

Good looking toaster that's well built but lacks the performance suitable for true toast satisfaction. I guess the product team didn't really test it with items from the local grocery store. It does a fine job toasting the lower 75% of your bagel/toast/large English muffin leaving the top 25% relatively warm and noticeably less "toasted." Small items such as Thomas' English muffins do just fine, but put a bagel in there and you might need to rotate it halfway through the toasting cycle. Additionally, the control knob changes the toasting quite a bit b/w 4.5 and 5 on the dial, so be careful else you'll burn things. Lastly, this toaster's speed is a bit on the casual side, too, taking noticeably longer to get the job done.

I am not a crazy toaster person who has all sorts of expectations for this sort of appliance. It toasts my bagels and bread perfectly and I am very pleased. The only thing that might be an issue for some is the fact that the slots are more shallow than some of the toasters out there. I do not mind as I rarely have super tall bread. If I do have taller bread, I typically take it out halfway and flip it upside down. Wasn't a deal breaker for me. The toasters I had before this (T-fal & Kitchenaid) were awful...this one is way better.

When I used this toaster for the first time to toast a bagel, the kitchen smelled akin to burning plastic. I'm sure this is temporary and will 'burn off', so to speak. Otherwise, a great addition to my kitchen!

Update: The smell has totally disappeared as I had hoped. This is a very good toaster and I gladly recommend it.

I was reluctant to spend thirty bucks on a toaster. My old toaster is a 13 year old basic Proctor Silex model. on The old toaster the inner side heating elements never toasted well leaving one side toasted and the other not toasted very well. It was also inconsistent in popping up meaning it could eiher undertoast or burn a piece of toast at amy moment. I have ben eating frozen waffles a lot recently and after several months of morning with either waffles burnt and one side and ok on the other side or toasted alright on one side and completely cold on the other (for that matter having to watch the toaster and manually pop it up as necessary at all times when I toasted anything), I had had enough. I decide to stay away from a basic toaster as I figured that a toaster with a frozen mode may cook a frozen waffle a little better than those basic models and the idea of a bagel mode was appealing even if I don't eat bagels that often.

After looking at several toasters in the store, both my wife and I decided that most of the plastic shell models just looked cheap and many of them looked odd and ugly. My wife didn't like the look of the plastic shell cuisinart at all for instance. Therefore, I started looking at stainless steel toasters and I eventually settled on this one as it passed the appearance test with my wife and the price wasn't too exorbitant for a toaster even though it was more than I would normally expect to pay for a toaster.

The toaster itself is well built and seems much more solid than those plastic sided toasters. I did look at the proctor silex toasters and examined the inside a little and it does appear that the inside material is a little more substantial on this Black & Decker.
