Attractive solidly built toaster!,
By
This review is from: Black & Decker T2707S 2-Slice Stainless-Steel Toaster (Kitchen)
I bought this toaster to replace my 14 year old Procter Silex toaster, which still works great, but had some issues that were starting to annoy me. I looked at this and a Cuisinart model, but decided to go with the Black and Decker because it looked more attractive. I must say that I am not dissapointed thus far. I love the bagel, defrost and reheat settings! My old toaster had wide slots, but the ones on the Black and Decker are larger, so they will do better with toasting bagels. Another thing I love about this toaster is that when you choose the "bagel" setting it only browns one side of the bagel. How cool is that?! The other cool feature of this toaster is the lift up feature. My old toaster required me to break out the untensils to get the bagels out, so this is really a plus. The only reason why I am giving this toaster a 4 and not a 5 is because it doesn't appear to have the cool touch feature. The sides of the toaster get pretty hot. Other then that this toaster is well worth the $$$.By the way, the product description indicates that this is a 1400 watt toaster. That is incorrect. It is 850 watts. So, those that maintain this site might want to update the description. My old toaster was 900 watts and this outperforms it by a mile.

Impulse buy (my old toaster still worked, just didn't look cool)I like this toaster's retro deco look. Nice wide slots, the cancel button so you can rescue toast that is about to burn without having to force the handle up. It does get hot on the outside (my other toaster was cool to the touch on the outside), but I don't have small children who could get burnt anymore (and I simply avoid touching the thing myself). Note: before toasting anything in this one, turn it up to a high setting and push down the leaver to burn off the "manufacturing" smell or you'll get toast that tastes like burnt plastic.

Mediocre, but does the job,

Good looking toaster that's well built but lacks the performance suitable for true toast satisfaction. I guess the product team didn't really test it with items from the local grocery store. It does a fine job toasting the lower 75% of your bagel/toast/large English muffin leaving the top 25% relatively warm and noticeably less "toasted." Small items such as Thomas' English muffins do just fine, but put a bagel in there and you might need to rotate it halfway through the toasting cycle. Additionally, the control knob changes the toasting quite a bit b/w 4.5 and 5 on the dial, so be careful else you'll burn things. Lastly, this toaster's speed is a bit on the casual side, too, taking noticeably longer to get the job done.

After reading other reviews, I decided to purchase this toaster and I have not been disappointed. Something similar would cost twice as much at a regular department store. I love the stainless steel look and the buttons that let me choose what I am toasting.

In my search for the best toaster I thought that this one would fit my requirements. However, that is not the case. Toast is not always uniform in color on both sides, and as another reviewer noted, it is not deep enough to toast larger items such as English muffins and some waffles. I also noted that the slots aren't long enough to hold some of the whole grain breads that are now on the market. Back to the drawing board, I guess...

Bought this toaster on January 2, 2010. It stopped working after two weeks of minimal to regular use. The toaster pops up and no longer locks down. Sending back to Amazon for a refund and going to get a different toaster. Also, this toaster has blue lights which I think is weird, and the toaster dial is plastic not steel.

I was reluctant to spend thirty bucks on a toaster. My old toaster is a 13 year old basic Proctor Silex model. on The old toaster the inner side heating elements never toasted well leaving one side toasted and the other not toasted very well. It was also inconsistent in popping up meaning it could eiher undertoast or burn a piece of toast at amy moment. I have ben eating frozen waffles a lot recently and after several months of morning with either waffles burnt and one side and ok on the other side or toasted alright on one side and completely cold on the other (for that matter having to watch the toaster and manually pop it up as necessary at all times when I toasted anything), I had had enough. I decide to stay away from a basic toaster as I figured that a toaster with a frozen mode may cook a frozen waffle a little better than those basic models and the idea of a bagel mode was appealing even if I don't eat bagels that often. After looking at several toasters in the store, both my wife and I decided that most of the plastic shell models just looked cheap and many of them looked odd and ugly. My wife didn't like the look of the plastic shell cuisinart at all for instance. Therefore, I started looking at stainless steel toasters and I eventually settled on this one as it passed the appearance test with my wife and the price wasn't too exorbitant for a toaster even though it was more than I would normally expect to pay for a toaster. The toaster itself is well built and seems much more solid than those plastic sided toasters. I did look at the proctor silex toasters and examined the inside a little and it does appear that the inside material is a little more substantial on this Black & Decker. While the lift lever feels solid to push down and the buttons are ok, the darkness adjustment knob feels disappointingly cheap, however, I found this to be a problem with many of the toasters I looked at in stores. Careful examination of the outside does show a few flaws in the stainless steel so definitely there are some quality control issues but that is not unexpected in this price range. It does toast evenly on both sides and the frozen mode on waffles was very good at toasting a frozen waffle. However, on taller items, as another reviewer mentioned, it will leave the very tops inadequately toasted. It didn't bother me that much while actually consuming the toast so it may not be that big of problem. I watched the toaster as it was cooking and it appears that the toast lifting mechanism does not have full travel to the bottom of the toaster although you can see that there is space for more travel in the basic design. It is unclear whether this again is a result of poor quality control and that only some toasters have this issue or whether there is a design flaw in the mechanics of the lift lever. The footprint of the toaster I feel is about average for a two slice toaster. Its larger than my old Proctor Silex and some of the other cheapo basic toasters out there but its about the same size as the stainless steel 2-slice cuisinart model which any size difference between that and the plastic cuisinart billed as "compact" is virtually unnoticeable. I have only had the toaster a short time so I cannot comment on long term durability now, but I will try to update this review should it break sometime within the next two years.

I have used this toaster less than 3 months and it no longer funtions properly. It only gets used three or four times a week so it is not abused. The handle no longer locks down so it is useless. I see other reviews that have the same complaint. Think twice about this one even though Black & Decker has had a good reputation in the past.

Good looking toaster but after using it for a few weeks the toast doesn't stay down. The toaster pops your bread out 1 second after putting it in. You have to repeatedly press it down to keep your toast in long enough to get toasted, or stand there and manually hold it down until your toast is done. It seems like it is stuck in "pop up" mode. Buy this toaster at your own risk. I'm shopping for a different brand.

The product description clearly states this toaster specifications at 1400 Watts of power consumption. Turn the toaster over and the label clearly states 850 watts. Where did the other 550 Watts go?I was shopping for a faster toaster and the Watts of the unit should indicate the power consumption, the amount of resistance in the heating elements and, therefore, just how hot it gets. High Watts should mean more heat and faster toasting. I assume this is just another common toaster and I'll probably send it back to Amazon, unused, when the Christmas season is over. I'm disappointed that they have flawed specification on their web site. Had it been correctly described at 850 Watts I would not have ordered the toaster. |
