toasted,
This review is from: Black & Decker TR1200SB 2-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster with Retractable Cord, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Don't buy this toaster.... bread toasted black on one side and brown on the other. The well is not long enough for some bread and at lower settings leaves the top of the bread untoasted. On the other hand if you toast english muffins you cannot retrieve them without burning your fingers.. the well is then too long! Terrible toaster... don't spend your money on this item!!

I bought this toaster elsewhere less than 3 months ago, but I hate it soooo much that I decided to do consumers a favor by posting a review here. The lever only worked correctly periodically from day one. Now? Not at all. Junk, plain and simple. The only upside is that it's inexpensive, which is one reason I determined not to buy an expensive brand. Customer reviews of those showed dismal performance as well. Unless a commercial toaster is purchased---and they are extremely expensive-- virtually all brands are made in China. Enough said.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT! Pathetic.

The toaster looks great but after 40 days, the handle does not stay down. Even though the toaster still functions, toaster does not function unless the handle is held down. Would not recommend to my friends...

I really wanted a toaster with a retractable cord so it could be put more easily away. I saw the Black & Decker and considering the great experience I have had with other B&D products (including a juicer that has lasted forever!) I figured I'd give it a shot despite the bad reviews. I am glad I did. I think this is a decent toaster and see no major issues with its construction. I do not understand the flimsy handle issue others are reporting. Yes, the toasting is a bit inconsistent, one side will tend to be a bit darker than the other. But not something that would make me want to return it. The darkness knob feels a bit loose but again, nothing big. I am only knocking off a star for the (minor) toasting inconsistency. If that is an issue for you go ahead and get a $200 Viking toaster. Me, I'll be happy with my $30 B&D which has already lasted 10 months of every-other-day usage.

Nice looking toaster that is well built in all but the handle to be pushed down to toast. Am afraid this will break before the toaster is used very much. Would not recommend.

Where is the ZERO star rating?,
This review is from: Black & Decker TR1200SB 2-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster with Retractable Cord, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
What a disappointment!!! This was the sturdiest of the 6 toasters on display at Bed Bath and Beyond. I should have read the ratings first :-( Out of the box, it was beautiful on my countertop. It never worked from the first push to the handle to depress to make it toast. Not even once. Shame on Black & Decker. They can keep their retractable cord - I'm going to replace this with the cheapest thing I can find that will toast bread. I guess this is just a testimony of the times we live in. Unless you want to replace small appliances, you have to spend a couple hundred dollars on them. I'll take my chances with a $15. toaster. Don't waste your gas on this toaster- now I have to spend another $6.00 on gas to take it back. Humbug!

Within six months of our purchase, several critical functions went wrong with this toaster. The retractable cord wouldn't stay extended and put pressure on the wall outlet. The basket would not stay down and needed to be manually held throughout the entire toasting cycle (this function worked properly for five months or so). At times, the basket would not close properly to hold the toast in place. We are finally replacing after a myriad of disappointments.

Strange toaster, but it's good at frozen waffles.,

Picked this toaster up this week at a store. Figured I'd check the reviews to see if others found it as odd as I do. My main objection is that the bread doesn't come up very high when it's finished. I suppose this could be a feature in some cases, as it might stay warmer if you don't take it out right away. But as another reviewer commented, it's tricky to get English muffins out without burning your fingers. So far it's been ok as long as I pull up on the plunger when I'm taking them out. I'd considered returning it in anticipation of future stuck English muffins (or burned fingers). But I discovered it does a better job on frozen waffles than my old toaster did - warm on the inside without burning on the outside, yay! So I guess I'll keep it and hope for the best. But it is a tad unnerving.Others have also commented on the weird handle. The distance of travel is short, and you have to press down fairly hard in order to get it to stay. I suppose it's just a matter of getting used to it, but I can't imagine why they designed it that way. You'd think toaster handles would be a mature technology by now. |
