4.0 out of 5 stars It took them 30 years to make a usable crumb tray.
Finally, I can empty my crumbs without lifting my toaster oven. The front opening tray is a change they should have made a long, long time ago. I'll have to admit, before this, my tray was pretty nasty looking. Now I can clean it all the time. I will! Really!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the quality I would expect from Black & Decker
I purchased this toaster oven/broiler yesterday and returned it today. It didn't work at all. Didn't warm up, didn't light up. I was going to exchange it, but when I saw the poor construction I decided to return it and shop for a different brand. The door doesn't line up, and neither does the flimsy crumb drawer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too hot too handle, June 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker TRO2200 Toast-R-Oven Broiler (Kitchen)
I decided to give B&D a go since they tend to be rated rather high. 4 years ago I attempted to buy a moderately priced toaster oven and bought a B&D but when I got it home almost burned my hand on the top of it while it was toasting. I returned it for a Toastmaster which was much more insulated and not so hot. Well, my beloved Toastmaster died so I decided to give B&D another shot and lo and behold - burned my finger tip on the top of it when I tested it out. It radiates a dangerous amount of heat and any child or adult for that matter could get seriously burned. I have a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old and could never have such a dangerous appliance on my countertop. Guess who returned it for a Toastmaster?

Finally, I can empty my crumbs without lifting my toaster oven. The front opening tray is a change they should have made a long, long time ago. I'll have to admit, before this, my tray was pretty nasty looking. Now I can clean it all the time. I will! Really!

On the minus side, I can't get used to pushing a button to make toast instead of flipping a lever, but I suppose I'll get over it. This is my fifth toaster oven, and except for the inconvenient toast button and the convenient crumb tray, it isn't very different from the first one. However there is another difference. The hanging bracket that fit the last few models won't work with this one, so It has to take up counter space. That's disappointing, but not earth shattering. What really ticks me off is that they don't tell you that BEFORE you buy the thing.

I suspect this won't be my last Toaster Oven, but I hope they're through making changes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Defective toaster, December 4, 2003

Toaster worked fine at first, then about six months later it started taking longer and longer to toast. The oven temp. appears to work fine, however, even at the darkest setting, you must toast a piece of bread twice! Unfortunately, since we received this as a gift and did not start using it right away, it is no longer under warranty and we are stuck with it. If it had still been under warranty, you would have to pay them $5 to ship you a new one. Since their product is defective, I would expect them to pay for the shipping to replace it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Plastic falls off/Toaster button broke, May 12, 2003

Plastic falls off in various locations. Toaster button broke in about 7 months. So can't toast unless we use 500 setting on oven and watch it til complete. Ringer self-stop now fails to work. Worked ok til now.

When I pulled this toater oven out of the box for the first time, the temperature knob had already fallen off. It was poorly made with large gaps where the different pieces should have fit together snugly. I took one look at it and wrapped it back up to return.

1.0 out of 5 stars Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven = one big burnout, May 23, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker TRO2200 Toast-R-Oven Broiler (Kitchen)
I have only had the oven (purchased new) for two months! The bake and broil options quit working today, yet the toast option still works!?!?? Anyhow, don't know if I just got a *lemon,* or maybe all of the Black & Decker toaster ovens are bad. Either way, I won't purchase another Black & Decker small appliance again. I won't need to, there are many other companies to choose from that have supplied me with long lasting products.

5.0 out of 5 stars A big step forward, August 26, 2005

I can't praise this product enough. Buy it! It's a big step forward for Black&Decker. I have never cooked anything better than a sausage in my entire life, and now I am cooking just about anything from beef and fish to bread and toasts. What makes this possible? The ease of switching between bake and broil, the precise temperature control that bakes food very fast without overheating, the design of the broil coils that brown without burning. The overall design is very simple and at first sight the oven doesn't look capable of doing all that, but it is! The size is small yet roomy inside, ideal for cooking a meal for two in a blink. It uses very little energy and generates very little heat (but don't touch it and keep children away). I installed it myself hanging under a cabinet using a Black&Decker mounting hood, it looks inconspicuous,
as it should. Ideal, I love it.

Nothing is perfect in this life. The mechanism that extracts the rack is too weak and is already damaged. The mounting hood is sold separately, it should be an option so that people can buy an "under-the-cabinet" toaster oven. There are no instructions on how to clean the inside of the oven. The casserole/cake pan in the enclosed offer is 11.13" wide, but the inside of the oven is only 11.0" wide, so the pan would not fit (I noticed this and didn't buy the offer), and there is no explanation provided. Nothing too serious in muy judgement, the oven is still a very good buy.

By the way, the hood fits very well! Hope the oven keeps going.
