THE BATTERY PACK IS VERY COMPACT AND CHARGES EASILY, NEEDED TO HAVE A SPARE ONE SINCE I USE THE TOOL ALL THE TIME...ONE CHARGE DOES LAST A LONG TIME...

The battery itself is OK. I have several and they seem to do fine and recharge well. I have only had one to go bad. However, it seems that Black and Decker has chosen to remove the VPX product from all stores. I bought quite a bit of VPX products and now have no way to keep them going. So I will try my best NOT to purchase any more Black and Decker products.

Bought a kit with a drill, saw, flashlight and battery at WallMart, liked the flashlight so well we bought another and found the battery here at a good price.

These batteries work great and hold their charge better than any others we have had (and we have had many).

Black & Decker has done it again! They have developed a COMPLETE system utilizing the same rechargeable battery for all of the tools in it. The battery has no memory and can be stored charged without ruining the battery. The results are a more powerful battery; interchangeable between tools and a longer lasting charge! The rest speaks for itself!!!

These things can kick out a lot of power. I have
the smallest of the VPX driver/drills and can do things
with it which you normally would not expect to be able
to do with a small driver/drill.

But you can't do them for long. The battery will last
just about as long as you'd expect under normal use,
but due to the special chemistry of this battery it can
dump it's entire load of energy in just minutes (without
harming the battery, no guarantees about how the tool
will take it), so if you start drilling quarter inch
holes through sheet steel with a single-pack tool, just
don't expect to get many done on one battery, and if
you own a lot of packs and keep feeding them in, be
careful not to overheat the tool. My tool gets pretty
hot after the second pack is through. These cells
are new so manufacturers may not have been expecting
them to be able to run the tools so hard.

The charger that comes with them really takes it way
too easy on these cells -- they should be able to charge
in an hour and fast-charge in 15 minutes, but they
take a few hours in that charger.

Use the VPX line of tools if you expect to only meet the
very occasional high power job. If you're a "power user"
go for the Dewalt 36V -- same great batteries but many more
of them in a pack.

I can't attest to the calendar life and shelf life claims
of these packs yet, because I just bought the tools and
haven't left them unused for more than a few days.

UPDATE: 10/2011 Three years later and these packs are still
working as good as the day I bought them. Or at least,
I can't notice the difference.

BTW, the above comments apply especially to the vaccuum,
which will suck them dry in mere minutes. That unit is
disappointing, but the rest of the tools have been great.
Too bad about the discontinuation.

I bought a Black and Decker saber saw with the VPX battery. During second use of the saw, things were going rippingly and then the battery pack went totally dead. I put it in the charger and nothing happened. Pulled the pack apart and, with a voltmeter, found one of the two cells totally dead (and with infinite resistance). I like the saber-saw but think Black and Decker dropped the ball on quality control of the batteries. Sure, making stuff in China seems cheap, but it's not worth it if things crap out on second use.

This battery pack powers the black and decker tools. The tools are small, light weight and do the joy well and it's perfect being cordless. The battery pack is reasonably priced. Great product

I have been unable to find this battery pack anywhere until I looked on Amazon.com and amazingly it was there. It made it possible to still use my battery powered screwdriver which is very handy. Glad they carried this battery.

This was purchased as an extra battery to always have a charged battery. It works great and it was an easy transaction, shipped quickly.
