Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Equipped with a polished, stainless-steel, smooth-gliding soleplate and a soft, rubberized handle for a comfortable grip, this 1200-watt iron minimizes effort on laundry day. It offers common features like variable steam, a misting spray, and a steam burst for removing stubborn wrinkles, and uncommon features, as well. For example, the iron has a motion sensor that shuts it off if left standing for 10 minutes. A self-cleaning system flushes minerals and lint when a lever is set at "clean only" and the iron is rocked back and forth over a sink or basin. Finally, a magnifying lens covers the temperature dial to enlarge the setting numbers for easy reading. (The setting numbers correspond to a fabric-selection guide printed on the large, transparent water tank.) The iron's center-mounted pivoting cord prevents tangles and wraps around the iron's base for storage. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Iron, December 18, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker X725 ProFinish Premium Iron (Kitchen)
I was never particularly inclined towards ironing. It's time consuming, and simple as it seems, requires some technique to do properly. Then I saw "The Professional". Leon from that movie liked to iron and suddenly ironing became cool. Done with the anecdote, onto the review.

This iron is well thought out in every way. When in the sitting position, it has a good base, so the heated bottom is elevated a good inch and a half from your ironing surface. This will prevent some potential clothes burning mishaps. It's got a bright red on/off button. When the iron is on, you can clearly see that it is on. This will remind you to turn it off when done, thus avoiding some undesirable burning down the house mishaps. It comes with a water cup that is designed properly so it doesn't just spill everywhere. Filling up the iron with water is easy, and the water level can be clearly seen through sturdy translucent plastic. There are two options for using the water, spray and steam. The steam option puffs small clouds of steam right from the bottom of the iron. The heat setting knob is large, easy to turn, and has a mini magnifying glass over the active setting so it can be easily viewed. There are also suggested settings for different materials clearly displayed. The cord is made of thick, durable rubber that is supple and easily coiled for storage.

While perhaps too fancy for Leon the professional, it's a very solid iron for the rest of us.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent for a while but now leaks like crazy, April 21, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker X725 ProFinish Premium Iron (Kitchen)
I bought this iron approximately 3 years ago. For a while, I was happy with it: it heated quickly, the water reservoir was easy to fill and it did a good job ironing. After a while, the steam function started acting up: sometimes there were loads of it coming out of the iron, sometimes I would have to press it on the garmet then hold it in a horizontal position for 10 seconds for the steam to give any sign of life. Finally, about a year ago it started to leak. I would have put up with it, except it leaked a black-brownish liquid which would not subsequetly wash off the clothes. It does not leak continuously, but it would leak at least 3-4 times during a 30 minutes ironing session. The black plate finish is very cheap - it came off after about 2 years of weekly use.

I finally gave up on it last week and forked out some money for a Rowenta - the difference in quality is huge.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have this iron, August 1, 2004

I bought this iron 9 years ago and have loved it ever since. Only recently have we started to have problems with it. You know once you start letting your teenagers touch your stuff... it got dropped a few times and still functions but not as well. I paid $94.oo for it back then and never did regret it. I am shopping for another one today!
