Plot: A black civil rights activist/serial killer named Mubia Abul-Jama, played by director Jonathan Lewis, is put to death in San Quentin Prison. When a dumb white girl named Heather fools around with a Ouija board, Abul-Jama's spirit takes over her white dummy and it is tranformed into a black doll with an afro and everything. He also still keeps up his old habits of gratuitous sex and murder.

My Thoughts: This film rocked. The movie starts off great with some animations that mentions how the film was rated X by an all white jury. The animations were all funny as hell and served their pupose. While all the jokes involved race, poop, or sex, they were still funny. In fact, the whole movie was funny. Everything from the shameless rotten cotton advertisment to the jealous ex-boyfriend White-T to the fact that the Black Devil Doll imagines the civil rights movement everytime he has an orgasm made me laugh.

From all the reviews I've read about the film, most people complained about how the females can't act. This personally didn't bother me at all since this was a horror/comedy. I thought it made the girl's lines even funnier since they were emphasizing certain parts of their sentences. It was obvious that the chicks weren't casted for their acting, but rather for their big breasts and good looks. I won't complain.

All of that plus a badass soundtrack and great editing made this a cult classic for years to come. I definently recommend atleast a few viewings of this film before you die.

An instant classic! Black Devil Doll will change your life. THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER, EXCLAMATION POINT!!!!!This is the greatest creation EVER in the history of all of creation, EVER!!! I want to be lobotomized so I can erase all memory of anything else because nothing can ever compare to the magnitude of Black Devil Doll!!! If God himself came down from on high and appeared in my living room while I was watching Black Devil Doll, I would berate and barrage him with an ungodly blasphemous tirade of obscenity for standing in front of the great Black Devil Doll!!!! This movie has it all. And by all I mean every bodily substance is well represented!!!! Mere words can not describe the awesomeness of Black Devil Doll!!! BUY BLACK DEVIL DOLL!!!!

Black Devil Doll is another one of those movies I underestimated, and was bitch slapped back to reality by the amount of work that went into this fun flick. Let me just start out by saying the production values are very good, it looks and feels as it should. One of the first things I noticed about BDD is the music, one thing that can kill the feel of a movie is a score that is forced or just doesn't fit. No such thing here, the original music by The Giallos Flame fits the bill, funky 70's riffs put you right into a classic blaxploitation feel mixed with tension building scales. Combine that with some great camera work, on spot editing and more boobs than you can shake your stick at and you have a really well put together independent project.

You will undoubtedly find yourself in more than one instance where you may feel nauseated or offended. Unless you have a real sense of humor! Looking past that there are some good effects, great one liners. The acting is on the upside of indy casting, they at least aren't obviously reading a prompt, Heather Murphy does bring it to the table. The only thing I can really fault is the plot/storyline, it meanders at times and leaves much to the imagination as to motives & where it heads after Heather.

Over all I enjoyed Black Devil Doll, I recommend you at least check it out. It's a sick,funny movie with something for everyone. Make sure to keep watching the credits for the delivery fiasco and visit [...]. 8/10

Since purchasing this DVD, I have watched the hilariously daring and viciously offensive low-budget blaxploitation-horror-comedy BLACK DEVIL DOLL about five times. I can easily say, without reservation, this is going to be my favorite straight-to-DVD indie film of the year. BLACK DEVIL DOLL is a new trash classic that will, I promise, become the ultimate party film and will not leave a dry seat in the house. A militant activist is put to death in the electric chair and then reincarnated in the body of a foul-mouthed 3-foot ventriloquist's doll--how can you not love that??? Mixing the darkest political humor of today's heated racial climate with scads of low-down, dirty puppet sex, director Jonathan Lewis has created a comedy masterpiece for those of us who still consider Rudy Ray Moore and Blowfly geniuses. See BLACK DEVIL DOLL by any means necessary!

I loved BDD! Low budget- check. Violent and otherwise offensive in every way- check. Funny as hell at times- check. What's not to love. I can't wait for Black Devil Doll 2!!!

Black Devil Doll is one of the few movies to come out in recent years that can actually offend you, then make you laugh, then make you puke, then offend you again, then make you laugh, lather-rinse-repeat.
Shawn Lewis has created a cult classic in the purest sense of the phrase. This isn't a movie for everyone, but those that it's for can rejoice, it has everything we all scream for in an exploitation (blaxploitation) film.
Nudity? Check. Bad language? Check. Puppet poo? Check.
After years of hearing about Black Devil Doll, and all of the hype surrounding it, it's a rare film that actually exceeds the hype. You'll find yourself muttering "I can't believe they went THERE!".
The carwashing montage is definitely a highlight and is very well edited and constructed as well.
It's not very often that an exploitation film of this caliber actually has some artistic merit to it as well.
For the pervert, honky-jive a$$ turkey on your Christmas list, look no further than Black Devil Doll!!!

Black Devil Doll is one of the best cult movies for 09! I have never seen anything like it, funny moments, the SPFX were bad ass, Lots of hot ass chicks and gore, The character White T was off the hook. DvD Menu and soundtrack were totally amazing...

I say see this MUTHA MOVIE best thing since peanut butter met chocolate!

With the release of the first trailer Black Devil Doll reeled me in becoming my most anticipated movie of 2008. A year and a few date changes later I finally got my hands on a copy.

The premise of the film is pretty simple, the busty Heather (Heather Murphy) makes the mistake of playing with a oujia board one night accidentally summoning the soul of Mubia, a black militant serial killer. Mubia comes to life in the form of a ventriloquist dummy thus becoming the "Black Devil Doll." Heather instantly falls for Mubia and while the feelings are somewhat mutual the doll cannot control his urge to rape and kill well endowed white women.

The movie is every bit of a modern day exploitation film. Vulgar one liners, breasts, gore, you get the idea. Does it live up to the older films? Yes and no. It's shlocky, disgusting, and offensive, but a big draw of some of those older films was the fact that they were unintentionally offensive or funny. This is where films like Black Devil Doll and Planet Terror fall short. Another negative about the movie is the runtime, it clocks in around
60 minutes or so. These things do not necessarily negate the film, but they do not help it either. Overall it is a very enjoyable experience.


The dvd comes in a clear keepcase, the cover sleeve is doublesided with some nice artwork on the front and back. Also included is a very nice poster/booklet. As far as the DVD extras go the disc is loaded!

Black Devil Doll is a sleazy, nasty, wrong independent horror exploitative film. It is offensive on many levels. And that is exactly what I like about it. The filmmakers have no false pretenses with this film. The story is fantastic, a bit CHILD'S PLAY in its roots, and it works well at achieving that "ewwwww, why the heck am I laughing" effect throughout the film. You cannot watch Black Devil Doll without laughing and feeling a bit like you need a shower.

The film is well executed technically. The low-budget puppet effects are well shot and at no point do I remember the puppet being compromised. The music and score is exactly what it should be for this kind of film. The deaths are incredibly cool. And the "music video with carwashing babes" that breaks out on the driveway is a lot of fun.

Seriously, if you are easily offended stay away from this film. But, if you like blacksploitation, sexploitation, a good campy horror story, and a film that was well executed technically, then check out Black Devil Doll.

Also, worthy of note is the anti-piracy/bootlegging spot at the beginning! It's fantastic and puts the bootlegging of independent cinema into perspective!

LISTEN! First off this is a LOVE STORY damnit! Buy this for your loved ones, your Moms, your Grandmoms, they will love it! This would make a GREAT Christmas or Quanza gift too! Don't forget Birthdays and Easter. BLACK DEVIL DOLL is a great Exploitation movie that harkens back to the 60's or 70's when POLITICAL CORRECTNESS did not run our society. Nowadays, everyone has to worry, "Oh will this offend someone". OUR SOCIETY SUCKS! BLACK DEVIL DOLL addresses the important issues like: 1.) B**ches 2.) Hoes 3.) The Never Ending Quest for Get High 4.) The Never Ending Quest For Some Strange Poonanny 5.) The Don't Make Me Smack A Ho question and last but not least 6.) WASTING ALL FOOLS. In my opinion this is the best film I have seen this year (2009). The Lewis Brothers outdid themselves and this has earned a REAL place in history! Let me say too that the GIALLOS FLAME soundtrack is great too and worth getting and the novelization and t-shirts are damn cool too. CAN YOU DIG IT HONKEY???? Buy this badboy now and support TRUE ART!
