With this 2 man tent you don't need 2 tents: one for winter and one for the tropics. I was worried before I purchased about condensation on a single wall tent but it turns out this is no problem. Ventillation is excellent - summer or winter! I use it as a one man tent (it's light enough!) and it is sooo roomy and bright. When the weather is fine and warm just unzip both doors for a 6 billion star view. It is unlike any tent I have ever owned. Follow instructions for setting up and it is then easy. It's probably not up to full on winter gales when pitched in stupid places but for anything else it covers it all - and with style!

I have had my Bibler Ahwahnee tent for about 15 years. When I bought it the footprint was 90" x 78". I believe that now you get a smaller, 2 person version, but same design as mine. Old version: 48.75 sf vs 33 sf for the current model. So, if I needed a similar size today it would be the Bibler Bombshelter. No hesitation here. You pay for quality and that is what you get!

Add on's that I love are the two attics (which are nothing more than mesh shelves that attach to the interior poles) and are perfect for stuff you'll need like lighter, matches, pills, whatever. Your necessities are in plain sight but out of the way. I have a butane stove for inside cooking. I highly recommend if you do this to hang it low or put a heat barrier (tin foil?) on the ceiling. The heat rises and I feel uncomfortable with the fire danger.
For winter I used the snow anchors and they do work. If you stake the tent properly it will withstand very high, storm type winds. It is very solid in that regard. I've been inside with 60 mph winds blowing and the tent was solid. I recommend seam sealing with silicone. Bibler also recommends this. I love the single wall design.....no condensation! I also love the interior poles because you can use them for hanging stuff up.....candle,drying socks, etc.

I will add that I am sold on single wall tents. Period.

For summer use it does not get any better, especially if you get the optional rear door vs. standard window. Ventilation is superb.

The vestibule is a "must" if there is any chance of rain plus it is nice for shoes, sharp objects, dogs, cooking, etc. I like a dry and clean tent!

Set up.....easy with practice.

We have traveled all over the world in this tent in all conditions and have never found anything better or more versatile.

Pros
Very light
A true 4 season tent in every way
Bomb proof in all conditions (very high wind, snow, ice, rain, and heat)
Very versatile! Tight as a clam shell or open it up like a wind tunnel to just give shade on the hottest days
Can be set up from inside the tent

Cons
Tight fit with the fabric makes it much easier to pitch with two people (can be fixed)
A bit expensive (but worth it)
Interior is tough to clean because of the Todd-Tex
The vestibule is a must for two people and packs due to space (get the vestibule!)

We have been using this tent all over the world and in every condition for the past 7 years and it is still going strong. We have several tents and have owned or used more tents over the years than we care to count. We are avid travelers and we have used the Ahwahnee in snow, ice, rain, high wind, desert, high and low altitudes, saltwater and fresh water trips, cycling trips, alpine, and everything else you can think of. We even lived in this thing for 2 years when we walked around the world. Okay, I will get on with it. The point is that this tent has seen a lot of action and has been put through the ringer.

This is hands down the best tent that we have every used. It is built like a rock and still going after all of these years. We have slept in this tent with the bottom sitting in water and stayed totally dry. One of the other reviewers said that the fabric was leaking on their tent but, this is very unlikely. What was probably happening was that they did not have proper ventilation happening in certain conditions (especially in humid climates, like Ireland).

I found this tent on Amazon at a bargain price, I was so excited when I recieved the tent and rushed to unpack it. I found the instructions and begain reading. First red flag was you must seam seal all seams before use, at this price point it should be ready to go out of the package. I said to myself, with the deal I got this is something I would be willing to do. So, I begain setting the tent up. Second red flag, the cross pole is very difficult to set in the gromets. After wrestling with it for about 5 min, I was able to fix the pole correctly. The last red flag was the plastic twist ties which hold the to main poles inside the tent. They seemed cheap and were difficult. I have been camping and backpacking for 40+ years and have seen the progression of design and materials. This may have been a great tent 15 years ago but today there are much easier and lighter tents available at a fraction of the cost. I will say that the build quality was excellent along with materials. Black Diamond is a quality company and I own other products they sell. And they have preformed well. But they need to go back to the drawing board on this one.
