My girls loved this product, but it really needs a third strap to remain on their head. The strap, in order to remain in place, has to be too tight to really be comfortable.

I got this for my daughter to be used for camping. Feels cheap but it worked. We've had it for less than 6 months (only used a handful of times as it is only a camping implement). The controller seems faulty as it doesn't always turn on now and sometimes doesn't stay on. It is unreliable. I don't think that it will last much longer. I have a lot of Black Diamond equipment and had trusted it's quality but this makes me question the quality of their products now. I will have to look elsewhere for a headlight, that's for sure.

*update: I wrote to Black Diamond since my product should be under warranty. They responded right away and sent me a new one overnight! The jury is still out on their headlights, but the company is first rate.

This headlight was very hard to open. There is a tiny, deeply recessed Phillips screw that requires a jewelers' screwdriver. Then, the battery compartment would not open until I discovered a flange that needs to depressed. From the inside, I could see that the front and back parts of the battery compartment are held together by two thin metallic strips that I sincerely hope are not as flimsy as they look. Finally, when the batteries were installed, it was difficult to align and attach the front and back pieces of the battery compartment to re-close the flashlight.

Other than that, the headlamp is fine. It's an especially attractive headlamp and headband with a nice bright light.

While better in design and function than some of the "big box store" inventory, this product just doesn't have what it takes. I bought mine for my daughter for camping and girl scouts. Good lighting and she liked the pink color, but the plastic tilt-bar broke after 6 months. I've since replaced with a petzl tikkina and have been very pleased. In fact bought another tikkina for my wife. Spend the extra $5. You'll thank me later!

So I don't have a super small head and this definitely fits with room to spare. It isn't a super serious technical headlamp, but definitely works for all kinds of purposes mostly being seen at night. It is comfortable and the design is fun. Although it is completely unnecessary I kind of want the pink one as well.

This headlamp is made of cheap plastic that broke within a few months of using (from being dropped once on a camping trip). I would expect sturdier construction from Black Diamond. My advice: get your kids a small adult headlamp that will last a lot longer. Ours is going in the landfill. Sad.

Lamp is lightweight, not very powerful, but OK for the price. Dimmed setting is achieved by pressing and holding down on/off button to desired level, takes getting used to. Changing batteries requires removing the headlamp from the headband in order to access the tiny battery compartment screw with screw driver (included), not convenient for back country conditions.
OK as an extra lamp for home emergencies, but very basic.

We have 5 black diamond adult headlamps that we adore. But they are either 90 or 100 lumens. When you need super bright light (which is most of the time you wear a headlamp) they are perfection. However, when running my neighborhood running path at night they are a little heavy and the spot tends to blind on coming runners. The Wiz is the perfect alternative for this scenario. It gives enough light to run safe yet it isn't as heavy and bright as my others. It also has a flashing feature that is great for kids, but I use it on my dog while we are hiking or running at night.

Update 4/25/14- I bought two of the Wiz lights and both have the same habit of the casing that houses the light and battery just falling apart. It's surprising to me because black diamond is such a great brand. But in the end this version of the headlamp needs to go back to the drawing board.

This was a Christmas present for our 5 year old granddaughter. The color was just what she wanted - electric pink. It is easy for her to use and adjust. The nice feature is that it turns itself off after a few minutes, preserving the batteries. And it seems to use the battery power very sparingly. We had it running constantly for about four (4) hours, and it never had a problem or dimmed at all. The switch was easy to use and the light direction adjusted easy enough for her to do it all by herself.
She had used her father's head lamp before this and struggled with adjusting it and turning it on and off. His was a very expensive model. This one is relatively inexpensive and is so user friendly for a young explorer - perfect for a child just starting their life of fun. Next year when our grandson is old enough to handle having his own headlamp, we'll find this model in his preferred color and give him the fun of exploring in the dark.
Some reviews that I read about this item before buying it mentioned it did not easily staying on the child's head and recommended a third, over-the-center-of-the-head strap. My opinion is that would be a bit of overkill. In our initial use this headlamp was on and off more times than you can count and stayed on when needed and wanted, even over a head of long blonde hair. Maybe adults want to leave the headlamp in place for a longer time. This head strap works just fine for the younger explorer.

My how headlamps have come a long way. I still have my original, THE original Petzl Tikka headlamp. I admit it may have lost "some" brightness over the years, although not much, this Black Diamond Wiz headlamp rivals it in every way. My three and a half year old daughter got this for Christmas and absolutely loves it. She is always "stealing" my headlamps and flashlights, so she got a pink one from Santa.

The band is plenty adjustable for even some adults to wear. The button has little tactile feel to it, but rather feels almost like a touch screen. I'm just accustomed to a stiff click, but this unit is designed with kids in mind so I'm fine with it and my daughter could care less. I mainly got this unit because of the automatic shutoff. Seemed like every time I needed one of my mini lights, the batteries were dead and that was provided I could find one at all. We found two small flashlights which had dropped behind her bed when we rearranged her room a while back. The only minor gripe is the tilt mechanism is a bit "sticky" and not very smooth.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will answer as best I can. Thanks for reading.
