I have been an owner of this spot lamp's predecessor for several years. You could call this headlamp the same thing, but there are several innovations that make this leaps and bounds above any other model I've used!

This headlamp is light, and very bright! I chose one in the covert green as it matches my hunting gear well. The main selling point on this model, and which caused me to upgrade, was the red LED's. My last hunting trip was a night hunt, and a friend of mine had a red LED headlamp as well (though a different brand). When he was able to switch on the red light, it did not destroy my night vision which had been adjusting over 30 minutes. The downside to his light was that it would cycle through regular to red, defeating the purpose of the red LEDS, ruining my night vision, and scaring potential game. This model can permanently switch to red without having to cycle through white. Holding down the button for 3 seconds will make the switch so that each time you press the button it will turn it from off to on, all the while remaining in red mode. To switch it back to normal, hold for another 3 seconds... brilliant.

While in the normal LED mode, it has two settings. The central brightest LED, and the secondary dimmer LED's. Both can be dimmed intuitively with a little practice. While in either mode, hold the power button and it will dim slowly like moving dimmer switch. Just release when it reaches the desired level. This works the opposite way for brightening too.

The strobe function can be achieved by using similar switch combinations. The lockout feature is a huge plus. Several times my old model had switched on in my cargo pocket, or in my pack.

overall a great light. love the infinite variable light control and no accidental gright light at night. long battery life. main issue is that it is not waterproof (no o-ring) . who makes a camp light that is not water proof nowadays? come one, just one simple o-ring!!!

Pros: Very bright, ability to dim high power led and low power led, red light with red strobe. lockout feature.

This light is very bright. The high power led offers up to 80 lumnes of light on max power and can be dimmed to the desired level of brightness. It has a good spot and flood ratio which has proven useful in the outdoors while backpackign and hunting at night.

The low level white led to the bottom gives up to 16 lumens at high and is very floody and useful for close tasks and even walking through trails at night. If you click it 3 times from off mode then it goes into white strobe.

The red led is nice but personally, I think it should have been brighter. The red strobe is fient he way it is.

You can activate the red light without goign through mdies and once you turn it off on red mode, it turns back on in red mode the next time you switch on the light.

The lockout feature is actviated by holding the switch down for 6 seconds - light will blink blue when lockout is activated. A very veru useful feature.

There is also a battery indicator light to show when yoru battery power is reaching low. Another useful feature.

Additionally, the light is very small and compact. I t is smaller thant he Princeton Tec quad headlight. With lithium batteries it becomes feather like in weight.

The headband is thick, very durable and very comfortable.

Cons: Not waterproof, modes can be more user friendly.

I don't know why a manufacturer would make a light that is not waterproof in 2011. Seems a bit insensitive to me. All lights should be made waterproof especially when they are to be used outdoors.

This headlamp is awesome. The central light is painfully bright and can be dimmed easily for less light. It has red light LEDs to allow you to work when your night vision is needed that are the right level of brightness for those who need it and you don't have to cycle through different levels of bright white light to turn it on. Not heavy at all on the head and you can remove the headband to wash it. A battery indicator and I can lock it so it won't waste the batteries sitting in my kit. If they had made it waterproof it would be perfect. I have already dropped it a couple of times and racked it getting in and out of cramped vehicles, didn't phase this lamp at all. A very solid little lamp. Just needs waterproofing.

Would have given this 5 stars, but it failed in less than 2 years. I replaced it with same model, but different color. It is bright, but not voltage regulated. So brightness changes substantially over usage, even when using lithium batteries. The lithium batteries are essential when hiking / backpacking in freezing weather. Other batteries die very quickly in these conditions.

Unlike its voltage regulated brother the "Storm" the spot on this light does not have a dead zone and thus is a good choice for coming down steep icy trails at night.

Bad news is the plastic ratchet used to adjust light angle does not work well in freezing weather and eventually fails.

The none spot mode is good for walking around camp and as a backup light when using 2 lights coming down the trail.

The red lights are too dim. Supposed to be for saving your eyesight when reading maps, but is just way to dim for that purpose.

Overall, this light served me well for nearly 2 years on over 100 nights of usage.

I would and have bought another to replace this one.
