The HotWire was the biner that introduced the wiregate. With the addition of a modern I-beam construction, and it's 20% weight savings, it rejoins the head of the pack. It has always had perfect dimensions. I.E. all the top biners have copied the basic shape and dimensions of the original HotWire. Even with the weight loss, it has a comforting solid feel. Full sized, easy to clip, large rope bearing surface. Perfect for Trad, Sport, or Alpine.

We took a couple of BD's new quickdraws with us last weekend, the Hotwire (Positron w/ Hotwire) and Firewire (two Hotwires), and boy were we impressed. Even though the new biners are much lighter, they are the same full size as the old Hotwire and still retain a very solid and reassuring feel, unlike many other ultralight biners. Sporting a well hooded nose to protect the gate from opening against the rock, the lines are elegant and sexy. With the attractive package comes great gate action, easy to clipping, large rope bearing radius, and even a lower price tag than last year. If you're looking for a full-size wiregate, the new Hotwire is definitely best-in-class.

New and improved actually means new and improved :)
The hotwire is the only full-sized carabiner I use, and it's definitely better than the old one (not that the old one was bad, it wasn't). Read more
