I was reluctant to post this review as I don't use these for mountaineering, for which they are intended; I have huge respect for those who trust their lives to these while climbing and their reviews ought to be considered first. For others who use these for other purposes, like I do, I hope this review is helpful.

I use these for lashing gear when I am hiking or backpacking, for hammock suspension, and for hanging gear while camping. They are overkill for my purposes, but they are lighter than equivalent steel gear, useful in their design, and are weight-rated. While they may be way in excess of my need, I don't like relying on cheaply made gear if I am in the backcountry. It gives me great peace of mind knowing that the capability of my gear is up to anything I may ask of it.

These carabiners are light for their size, and strong. I prefer the spring clip gate rather than other styles as I find them to provide the most flexibility of use for my purposes. They are a good size, too: Not too large, but large enough to handle any task I have for it, great or small. The approximate dimensions are 3 5/8" long X 2 1/8" wide. The price seems reasonable in comparison to similar products of like-capability. These are strong and useful and I can recommend adding them to your kit.

One thing I do find bogus, however, is that they are advertised as "Country of origin - USA" when they are clearly made in China once you look at the tag. While they seem well made and I have no reason to doubt that they are manufactured to the specs indicated, I don't like thinking I am ordering one thing and find that I got something else. This consumer takes care to purchase goods made in the USA when given the choice and I would have made a different decision had I known the actual country of manufacture. Still, this didn't affect my rating because it's impossible to tell whether this was an honest mistake, whether it was done by Amazon or Black Diamond, or whether it was intentional. So, the rating reflects my experience with the product, but potential buyers should be aware that some of these (like the ones shipped to me) are made in China, according to the manufacturer tag attached.

I purchased a pair of these to use for suspending my hammock between two trees in my backyard. They are very lightweight, seem very sturdy and work great for holding me up securely, with no fear of being dumped onto the ground while snoozing or getting in and out of my hammock. I'm not a rock climber and these are indeed made in China, so I don't know if I would trust the manufacturing quality control enough to save my life in a fall. When used in a non-life threatening scenario, such as for suspension in a hammock, I think they are excellent and would highly recommend them.

Good stuff you get what you pay for on this item. No worries with these holding my life by a string/rope. I bought four of them.

Also, the red is more of a reddish-purple for those fashion conscious types that might want to wear them as earrings.

I bought two of these to support by ENO Hammock. I am 200 lbs and they supported me and my hammock quite well. It is amazing how something this small can support a lot of weight.

These are great carabiners. I bought them for using while I go camping. Mostly for hanging my hammock quickly and easily, but I will probably use them for some mountaineering also. This is just a standard carabiner at a fair price ($7). In the future, I will be buying some more of these. Also, the gray finish is nearly silver.

These are outstanding biners. A very practical size, not as large as many others, but not too small to be confident with. NOTE: as others reviewers have mentioned, the red is nothing like the picture. It's a pale metallic magenta... basically pink.

When I order more carabiners, it will be this model.

these carabiners are climb rated, but i use them to support my hammock. great, quality and light weight (for the quality).

Up to this point the carabiner works great and the finish is very durable. That said, so far I have only used it as a belt and to hold my keys but I plan to use i for slacklining in the near future. My only gripe is that the packaging said Made In China yet the product has USA printed on it.. one of those must be wrong.
