Keepsakes best album, March 12, 2006
This review is from: Black Dress in a B Movie (Audio CD)
i think that this album is their best album because there isnt any screaming. The singer cant really scream that well except for in the song Girls Don't Know i like how they have a more mature album than the other ones I can listen to this album all the way through easily i love every song on Black dress in a b movie This album is the reason why Keepsake is one of my favorite bands of all time

Progress doesn't mean selling out, December 1, 2005
This review is from: Black Dress in a B Movie (Audio CD)
Looking at the number of stars given to this album here on Amazon.com, I felt the need to rebuke all the naysayers out there who claim that Keepsake sold out and that this is pop garbage. I sympathize with fans who were fans before this album came out. The previous albums were heavier and full of screaming vocals and to anticipate the release of a new album after waiting two years and having to listen to a completely softened version of, or even completely different version of the band's sound can stir up an immense amount of disappointment, believe me I know. Despite their progress into something different, they haven't sacrificed talent for album sales and dollar signs, and if you consider this pop, which I do not, then they can write one hell of a catchy pop tune. Yes we all change. We grow from angsty, slit-wrist teenagers who have nothing better to do but scream out our anger at the world, to young adults who have a better sense of what we want to do in this world, as well as the rest of our lives.
If you were a fan of Keepsake prior to the release of this album and have never heard this, or you are close minded and cannot adapt to change and will eventually be rooted out by darwinism anyway, then you probably will not like this.
But if you are open minded, enjoy a lighter, pop-rockish sound then by all means purchase this album with the intent of discovering a better version of keepsake, though I am in no way stopping you from enjoying the previous albums which were good but just not as good as this one.
Highlights of this album include but are not limited to:"Violent Love", "Ticket to Russia", and "American Fights".

Not quite the same but overall excellent, May 2, 2003
This review is from: Black Dress in a B Movie (Audio CD)
Being a huge fan of eulogy records, I really got into Keepsake because they were such a great blend of hardvore, emo and rock. This album is much more pop rock oriented but that necessarily isnt a bad thing. The somewhat high pitched but incredible vocals are made for pop rock. While I sometimes miss the hardcore elements, the outstanding melodies and choruses more than compensate. I could easily see many of these songs on the radio. The one qualm I have is weaker lyrics than on previous efforts. While the instrumentation may not be better, the band plays as much more of a cohensive unit. Songs like "space bound", "slander", "cartoon life", "engaging war" are brilliant. The slower acoustic songs, "American Flights" and "A raindance narrative" were the weakest lyrically and also the poorest tracks on the album. The electric guitars and syncopations really are essential to Keepsake's power. Thankfully songs like "ticket to russia" and "space bound" showcase Keepsake's heavier side. I would say if you are new to Keepsake and looking for an good, upbeat, indie rock cd, this is the one to get.
