We have been using this drive for several weeks and I have to say it has worked great for us. We have our utility programs loaded on the hard drive that we were carrying on several USB thumb drives - Hirens boot, WinSuperPE, Spinrite, Konboot, and several Antivirus recovery disks. Plus we have ISO images for installing versions Windows XP, Vista and 7 from Dell, HP, Gateway, Toshiba and all versions of each - standard, home, pro, Media center, ultimate, premium etc. If we have to reload a PC we can just hook the VE-200 up to the USB port, select the image to load and boot the PC, load the operating system and we are done. No need to carry a big binder full of restore CDs and utilities.

Works great, only limitation is 32 ISOs in a single folder, but still haven't reached that limit, and most PCs work fine with it - great way to keep updated CDs/DVDs all in one place without re-burning anything or using up blanks.

To start off this review, I must say that this is an amazing product. I currently have more ISO files on it than I can count and it has served its purpose well. However, I do have a few concerns and complaints. For one thing, the eSATA cable is very short. I know it comes free with the device, but it would have been nice if it was as long as the USB cable. Another concern I have is that the write-protect switch is both hard to access and not very durable. Not being able to reach it with my fingernail, I used the included screwdriver to move the switch. Unfortunately, I pushed a little too hard (entirely my fault--I didn't think I moved it over enough) and broke the switch off. Thankfully, though, it broke off while in the "unlocked" position, so I didn't completely ruin my device.

Other than those two slight problems, I have no problems with the device. The menu system was a bit tricky at first, but I got the hang of it in no time. When in use, it works flawlessly. I upgraded my device's firmware so it uses the exFAT filesystem so I can add ISO files to it without using NTFS-3G to mount the drive.

I like this enclosure because it means I'll never have to wait to burn the latest Ubuntu/Backtrack/SystemRescueCD distribution to a disk ever again. Just drag & drop the file and select it on the enclosure.

If you're on the fence about getting it, just go ahead and buy it. If you understand what this does, you're going to have a use for it eventually.

It's a $50 investment that you won't regret.
