What makes this book different from the many parenting guides already available? First, it is not a how-to manual. It does not tell how to diaper babies, handle tantrums, or set up a carpool. Rather, it deals with the importance of a father's involvement with his children and with basic principles of good parenting. Second, while so much of the material applies to any parent, the book specifically deals with the situation of black fathers. The author details six black fathers, including himself and his father, and explains how they handle issues such as education, sex instruction, children's health, and the like. This well-written book fills a special need for black fathers and belongs in all libraries serving them.

This novel is a work of pure art and genious in it's rarest form! The author gets right to the root in guiding the black male to fatherhood. It suggests actions and techniques one can use when it comes to the difficult task of raising young african-american children, expecially young males. The novel shows the way and should be read now and in the years to come. This novel should never be off of any book store shelves or out of stock on any on-line stores. I especially love this novel because I am a single father raising a young african-american male, and it gives me techniques that I can use to assure my childs' guidance will be a secure one. Praise Earl Ofari Hutchinson and Dr.Alvin Poiussant, PHD!

I love this book. I have already used many of the points from this book. For my children, I now understand the power position that I hold in their lives. For my son, I am a life guide, mentor, and role model. He literally follows me step by step. I must develop him and be careful to not display any bad habits. For my daughter, I must show her what a good man is all about via my action and the direction I lead the family. I have other books by Dr. Hutchinson and recommend him highly to other young fathers who need guidance.
