Secret Agent Spock !,
By
This review is from: Black Fire (Star Trek) (Hardcover)
This story could have fit into the Section 31 series. That is the ultra-secret Starfleet intelligence service started in The Deep Space Nine TV series. But, this story is not very cloak and dagger in the James Bond sense. In this story you follow Spock as he is court-martialed, captured by aliens, sent to a penal colony, and finally becomes a "space pirate". How did he get into all these situations? Read on! Yes! Spock is out of character in this story. Be prepared for suicide and Spock the Stud. Scotty is involved in the story with Spock when they are captured by the aliens and imprisoned on an alien planet -as Scotty stays loyal to his friend and First Officer throughout their capture and imprisonment. The ending is not as good as I would expected. But, the story is still a good read.Read on...

One of the best single novels from the Star Trek universe.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Fire (Star Trek) (Hardcover)
Back in early 1980's when Pocket books started issuing Star Trek novels, (even before they numbered them), Black Fire stood out as one of the best. Based on the then new premise of Spock as a savior of the Enterprise and the Federation.

probaly the best star trek book ever,
By tammy (chicago, il United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Trek: Black Fire (Paperback)
this book starts out with a bang(literally). there is an explosion on the bridge. captain kirk is near death. spock andseveral other crew members are also seriously injured. against dr. mccoy's strict orders, spock and scotty investigate this incident and find a whole new threat to the federation. along the way they team up with romulans which ultimately leads to spock being put on trial for being a traitor. this book has so much suspense in a short novel that it is unbelievable. a must read for all star trek fans.

a great adventure that covers alot of ground,

spock..traitor? sounds impossible doesn't it?without giving too much away, I think just about any reader will be wondering about how this one's going to pan out.. there's alot of subplots in this book, but sonni cooper wraps them all up nicely AND doesn't lose the reader in the process the primary focus is on spock and this is just another example of how great the character was and IS, especially when in the hands of someone who knows how to write him well out of all the trek books I've read this is definetly up there as one of my favorites if not my very favorite so far...GREAT story that would have probably made a fantastic movie

Best of the Best,
By Brian (Santa Fe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black Fire [Star Trek #8] (Mass Market Paperback)
Easily the best of the Star Trek books. It's just too bad that Sonni Cooper didn't write any of the movies. Unlike many other books that try to be episodes, Cooper went beyond the simple do-nothing formula and made a real adventure with a story that was much better than the average episode-wannabe book.

Excellent Read,

This review is from: Black Fire [Star Trek #8] (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book, I read it about once every year. Spock in cloak-and-dagger mode is intriguing. As for an earlier comment,(SMALL SPOILER) his suicide attempt was, in fact, quite logical. He was crippled and his companions would not escape (and thereby warn the Federation) without him.(END SPOILER) As far as behaving as we would expect the characters do, I thought they did, especially the Spock-McCoy relationship. Nothing in the book was unreasonable, nothing insofar unreasonable as a lot of Star Trek V (the crew turning on Kirk for example) which is canon while Black Fire is not. BF is an excellent read, like a lot of the 80's ST novels like the Entropy Effect.

I bought it back in 1983 when it was first published (yes the 1983 printing was the FIRST printing). I loved seeing how Spock's logic led him down a very unorthodox path and finally restored to his proper position on the Enterprise

This is the best Star Trek book I have ever read, even including all of the new ones! Why didn't Sonni Cooper keep writing?

I first read this book after scrounging through the Star Trek novels in my local library. It looked interesting and I can only say that it was thoroughly enjoyed. A few hours of reading bliss. After reading it, I rushed to my local used sci-fi book store and bought a copy. Since then, I have probably read it about 8 or 9 times. It is DEFINANTLY worth a repeated reading. Five stars. A Star Trek or fantasy classic.

I thought this book was excellent. I started reading it without too much interest - it was given to me as a gift. But the story quickly drew me in from the first chapter and kept my attention till the end. I especially loved how well Sonni Cooper portrayed the close friendship between Kirk and Spock. This book remains one of my favorites of the series!
