Very rich looking.

Bad product, and bad quality, but then again I could have expected that from an Ikea shelf.
Nikki
The hooks in the back are recessed so aliening for screws was somewhat difficult.

This is very solid and is easy to hang. I deducted one star because they don't include any hardware. You need to supply a screw appropriate for your wall. There are two brackets with ramp head slots, so you just supply the screws and the screw heads slide into the brackets. As you slide the shelf down onto the screw heads it gets tight to the wall. I found that hex head machine screws work best for standard studs and drywall.

The shelf itself has a descent finish.

It is real ikea product.

EDIT - bringing comments up into the review itself: I now have two of these. I used 1/4" Hex Head screws to mount into studs (well, one stud and one "floater") through drywall. The screws were about 1.5" long. On one shelf I keep a cordless phone, remote, and some other light odds and ends (the shelf is next to my treadmill). The other shelf holds a rather large cable tv box (not the tv, just the cable box). Neither shelf shows any sign of giving way. I would guess either would easily hold 10+ lbs.

Hope that helps.

Solid shelf, buy from source. These independents are ripping you off. I'm guessing Ikea does not have resellers and they are the only source for there items. Like like these sellers are paying retail then doubling cost to sell to you.

This product is nice, but for the length off the wall, I was expecting it could hold 3-4 lbs. Unfortunately, it sags immediately when any kind of weight is added to it. I had to purchase a wall bracket to support the small Uverse cable box I wanted to sit on it (no more than 3lbs), and that bracket defeats the point of a 'floating' shelf.

Great for one picture frame, but be prepared to purchase a bracket if you want to more than that on the shelf.

I used to be a big fan of this shelf. Bought short ones, long ones. Loved the fact that they slid onto a heavy duty, dual spike system that made these shelves SUPER sturdy. You could almost climb them. (Almost.) Ikea has redesigned them to "clip" on a wall, secure only by a clip that attaches to the two-inch back surface. FLIMSY FLIMSY FLIMSY. When I put anything on it, I think it's going to fall off the wall. This is corporate cost cutting at its worst. PASS ON THIS ITEM. IT IS LACKING in usability.

Just received 2 of these shelves. First...They came unbelievably well packed. I think the shipping company could have slammed them to the ground and nothing would have happened to them (Lots of bubble wrap tightly wound around the shelves). And there was no way that box was coming open. It had enough tape on it that even had the box melted away in the rain, the contents would have stayed together. The shelves had no scratches or dings or dents. Mine were perfect. The shelves are a deep matte black. But not that 'grainy' slightly gritty matte. Very smooth finish. Very rich looking. And they measure exactly 11 3/4 x 10 1/4 x 2, as stated.

Second...I say "so far" because I have not attempted to hang them yet. I may hang them, and they 'tilt' forward or something go wrong. So we'll see. But they are very light and feel hollow, so there shouldn't be a problem. (Will follow up if there are any).
Also, I AM grateful for the tip from the other reviewer about which screw type works best. Thank you.

The instructions, which are very large diagrams, say no screws are included due to different wall types. Uh, ok. It has to do with drywall, if they're mounted into studs, etc. Whatever. It's no big deal to find 2 screws. And those instructions..simple.

I hope there are no problems with these as I really like the square look. They're different from the usual long narrow floating shelves and look so much more up to date, more chic.

UPDATE: Followed "Just a Guys" recommendation about the hex head screws and no problems. Shelf looks like a million bucks. Holding up some heavy objects also. Would definitely buy more.

Looks nice, but very basic and flimsy. No mounting equipment or screws included.. just the concept of "you'll work it out eventually". Tried various types of anchor and none would work well until i screwed it into a stud and floated the other anchor. Shipping cost was ridiculous!

I saw the bad reviews, but I decided to get the shelf anyway because it looked exactly like what I needed. Instead I ended up with a cheap, flimsy headache of an installation. To boot the shelves didn't even come with screws when I purchased them. My advice, find better quality shelves and spend the money necessary.

I purchased three small, 1 by 1 foot Ikea - Lack shelves. Let's just say the name is fitting. It is lacking any real instruction, beyond the obvious: insert screws and hang on wall... It also is lacking any screws, mounting bracket, toggle bolts, or anything of the sort. They also don't tell you that you NEED some sort of special bolts, otherwise those shelves will come crashing down at 4am from the wind blowing through the open window... lol... Do not attempt to use these for your cat, it will not work without some serious secondary support. To be fair IKEA does sell another Lack shelf that is 3 x 1 and it DOES come with all required screws and a nice mounting bracket. This one can be easily installed into studs and/or attached with toggle bolts and will then support heavier loads, in my case a jumping cat. Good luck, hope this helps someone else.
