4.0 out of 5 stars Electro with soul...
The Black Ghosts are a British Electro duo, and if you like LCD Soundsystem or Calvin Harris, chances are you'll like this.

"Any way you choose to give it" and "I want nothing" are bouncy dance songs with buzzing 80s sounding synths, while "It's your touch" is more chilled with an almost Jazzy/ambient vibe.

"Repetition kills you" is a droning...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Musical Sham
So we all heard full moon on the "Twilight" soundtrack right...well the rest of this CD is nothing like that. I have no idea how to classify this except for uninteresting. Full moon is the only gem on this disc.

"Repetition kills you" is a droning synth dance number (with guest vocals by Damon Albarn), while the groovy "Until it comes again" has intermittent bursts of guitar giving it a rock edge. Giving a different feel is the almost Simon & Garfunkel-sounding acoustic ballad "Full moon" (with lovely ethereal harmonies).

Other standouts are the piano driven groovy number "Something new", the ballad "Don't cry", the bouncy "Face", and the sparse despondent sounding "Some way through this" with slowed down beats and synth strings pushed to the fore, giving a haunting R&B/Techno feel (much like something Justin Timberlake/Timbaland would do). Brilliant!!

Electro with soul!!

Fans of catchy electro (as the title says) rejoice you have another album to add to the collection. If you like LCD Soundsystem, Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, Felix Da Housecat and others; you will love this album. Best song: Repetition Kills You.

4.0 out of 5 stars The wait is finally over - Black Ghosts sublime electro/rock debut is here! Simian V.2, July 9, 2008

After two years of occasional underground club singles, the long wait is over - and the BLACK GHOSTS' sublime, stunning debut is finally out in the U.S. - featuring all the club hits like FACE, SOMETHING NEW, and more. If you like a perfectly pitched sonic mix of electro, rock, pop, and dance, you came to the right place. With vocals from SIMIAN's ex-lead singer, SIMON LORD, this is really the "third" Simian album, but why quibble with perfection? WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big sleeper hit, too bad it got overlooked..., January 5, 2012
This review is from: Black Ghosts (Audio CD)
I first downloaded this accidentally in 2008 right after it was released. I remember enjoying it then, but it never really grabbed me by the short and curlies. Somehow, while perusing youtube, I stumbled across the song "Some Way Through This", which I actually remembered quite vividly. After listening to it, I was blown away. What an AMAZING song... Why didn't I give this more of a chance? I continued to look up more songs on youtube and was impressed enough with the whole album to go out and buy it - a first for me since probably 1999. There really are no comparisons that would do this band justice. Their unique music sensibility, well crafted lyrics, and wicked composition makes for a great listen almost all the way through - by no means a PERFECT album, there are 4 songs which are pure genius, and the rest are very listenable. Though I gave up on techno/house-beat music in the mid-nineties, somehow I can listen to this. The whole album is infectious and after repeated listens, still holds up. Simon Lord's singing style, though unorthodox, is very cool and Theo Keating obviously contributed some massive music for this release. Do yourself a favor and pick this up, even in 2012, it sounds fresh and innovative. I hope the boys continue to put out more music, it would be a shame for them to give up since apparently no one outside of the UK has heard of them. People call this pop/dance, but it really falls within its own genre. A modernday masterpiece.

I bought this CD for one song, and I like the one song I bought it for. I was a bit suprised that the rest of the CD didn't seem to be of the same style. If you like techno-industrial rock this a good CD, great for dancing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop hits, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Black Ghosts (Audio CD)
The Black Ghosts debut album is fantastic, and I keep hoping to hear that they will be putting out a second album. It's one of the best pop records I've ever heard and should definitely make people want to dance. It has numerous instantly catchy tracks that are also "growers" (as they say)... which is to say that it starts out sounding awesome and the songs only got more addictive over time.
Major highlights are the singles: "Repetition Kills You" (feat. Damon Albarn), "Anyway You Choose to Give It" and the Twilight soundtrack feature: "Full Moon", but the whole album is top stuff.

When I first listened to this on my laptop, I didn't really get into it, but since I've had it in the car, cranked up, I can't get enough of it. Great lyrics, great beat.

Very interesting CD, it reminds me of the UK club scene with tons of amy winehouse's dancing with their hands in the air, very tech-o. I have to say it's hot!
