5.0 out of 5 stars it's sweet!
Okay let me just say this is an awesome indoor mini helicopter! I bought a micro mosquito and it is crap when compared to the Ox-Wolf! The rotors are a nice high impact plastic and you don't have to worry like you do with the super fragile aluminum rotors for the mosquito.
The Ox-Wolf also does a better job of hovering than the mosquito as well.
And if you fly...

And if you fly too close to the ceiling, the rotors don't suck you up and keep you stuck on the ceiling. Just decrease your rotor speed and you will come down gradually, and keep flying, unlike the mosquito where you have to kill the rotor speed all out to come off the ceiling.

A great feature is that it resembles the famous AirWolf helicopter: "Lady."

For what you pay for one micro mosquito (not the rip offs,) you can buy 2 of these Ox-wolfs!

The only two down-side I will say about this wonderful little helicopter is that it does not have the flying time of the mosquito or even the Air Hogs Piccoo Z. (Flight time will last you around 6-7 mins with a decent charge time of around 10mins.)
And the blinking light on the nose that changes color is a bit annoying.
Other than those two minor flaws, you will have more fun flying this than the micro mosquito.

(I can't believe I am the 1st to write a review of this awesome mini helicopter!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!, January 29, 2009

This little helicopter is a lot of fun! I'm quite happy with it. In the first day, I learned to fly it well enough to land it on my kitchen counter, and even fly it to myself and catch it in my hand. My only experience with RC aircraft is flying an RC plane simulator on my PC. The helicopter keeps itself level automatically. You have to concentrate only on keeping it facing the way you want, and maintaining altitude. It's challenging enough to fly to keep it interesting, but easy enough to enjoy it on the first day. My only criticism is the manual. It provides little useful advice and is an awful translation.

In contradiction to what the description says, it takes 24 minutes for the remote to charge the helicopter. This provides 7 minutes of flight time. It doesn't seem to matter whether you use alkaline (1.5v) or rechargeable (1.2v) batteries in the remote.

I have a few pieces of advice to help you enjoy it:

1. When you first start learning to fly it, keep it within 2 feet of the floor. If it gets too near the walls or furniture, just cut the power and let it drop. It won't be damaged by a 2 foot drop to a flat surface. If you're giving it to a child, be sure to make them follow this rule at first, otherwise it will end up broken by the end of the first day.

2. When you first fly it, get it a foot in the air and adjust the trim dial on the remote to stop it from rotating. The trim varies as the battery discharges, so expect to have to hold in rotation corrections most of the time.

3. Outdoor flying is possible, but be aware of two things. First, since it's IR, in daylight you'll need to learn to keep the remote pointed at the helicopter. Second, the slightest breath of wind will overwhelm it and make it move horizontally out of your control.

4. As someone else wrote, attaching a small weight to the nose allows it to go faster forward which is more fun. Even with this, it only goes one to two feet per second. It can actually go faster straight up.

5. Sudden control movements can cause erratic behavior, but if you move the controls gradually, it's quite consistent and controllable.

6. Changes in power to make it go up and down can affect its rotation, and making it move forward and backward can affect its altitude. But you can learn to anticipate these effects and compensate before they even happen.

7. The transmitter has 3 channels, but the manual doesn't explain how to change them. You set the channel switch, then turn on the helicopter, then turn on the transmitter. The helicopter automatically sets itself for whatever channel it receives. Flying three of these together would be wild!

On the second day I owned this heli, a small gold weight flew off the stabilizer bar. I wrote the company and (to their credit)received a quick response. I was hoping for something like "Sorry about that, we'll send you a few of those no charge." Instead I was sent a link to buy an entire new blade assembly for $7.00. This I bought and was amazed to see that there were no instructions provided on how to install it. Does this company think we were born knowing how this heli goes together?
Add to that, the 2 assemblies I bought were indifferently tossed into a rather large box with no packing material. The message was clear "We have your money - that is what counts."

I realize we are in a kind of Dark Age of customer service, however this is an opportunity for this company to stand above the rest.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Christmas Toy for Teens and Adults, December 27, 2008
By

Just got it for Christmas and it's great. This is my first R/C flying toy, and I wanted a cool looking one like this to have fun with at home and the office. Did a little research on Amazon and online, and finally decided that this one was the ideal match for value and cost. At around $36, it's a little more expensive than some, but a much better value than others. Out of the box, it plugs in to and charges from the remote, which is bad because it drains the 6 AA batteries (not included). It also needs about 10 minutes to charge for 5 minutes of flight. Hopefully this will be alleviated when I get the wall charger (sold separately). The remote control has dual joysticks (up-down on one and directional controls on the other) and a much needed button to adjust the trim. It's a little hard to control out of the box for a newbie like me, but practice makes perfect, and this one is easy to learn. Adding a tiny weight to the nose helps a lot, and the high impact plastic rotors and body are very forgiving. In the meantime, this is a great toy that only whets your appetite for a bigger one that flys longer and is even easier to steer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very fragile, January 11, 2010

This helicopter flies great, but it is very, very fragile. I purchased two of these for my two kids. One started coming apart after its first flight. One of the (pseudo)wheel broke upon landing. Next to go was the rotor blade, which cannot withstand even the slightest impact. The second helicopter broke into two. My advise will be to buy it only for display, because even a normal flight results in breakage.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant for 25 bucks!, May 3, 2009
This review is from: Black Hawk Wolf Mini Helicopter (Toy)
this is such a sweet little guy, i'm a physics student and am very impressed by how well it works. takes a little practice to fly circles around the room, but its very possible. and extremely fun when you get going.

my tips:

1) start out with enough space to lift the copter up and get it trimmed.

2) if the copter seems like it wont move forward very fast. attach a paper clip to the front wheel. the extra weight really improved the handling and speed of my helicopter.

3) avoid objects. it can take a 4 or 5 foot fall in the y-axis (vertically downward). but, any horizontal x or z axis crashing could prove deadly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk Item - Save Your Money, January 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black Hawk Wolf Mini Helicopter (Toy)
We bought 2 cheaper helos from a Kohl's as Christmas gifts for two of our grandsons. They loved them, but one malfunctioned after a few days (the other is still going strong after 30 days play by an 8 year-old. I ordered a "BLACK Wolf Super Model OX-wolf r/c" from Amazon (INSTAPARK?) and had it sent directly to my grandson. It was an extreme disappointment. When I offered to get parts to replace, this was my daughter's response ... "I hate to say it, but it really is not worth paying money to replace anything on it. You can see when you come--it is the kind of thing you find at flea markets and carnivals and such. (Even their box packaging uses scraps from other packaging.) It looks nice on Amazon! But I don't think anything replaced would last--it literally broke on its first flight, in midair. When it landed, the wheels broke off. The replacement blades they are selling are not the ones on that heli, either. It also has no name--while it is pictured, and 3-channel, it is not a "black wolf super model blah blah". If possible, it should be returned for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Helicopter Ever, July 9, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Black Hawk Wolf Mini Helicopter (Toy)
First, this is a great helicopter. The first heli i got crashed when its battery died. Its duration time was 5 compared to 10 on this helicopter. Further more, I think this is the best copter yet.
