5.0 out of 5 stars single song
Bought this for my six year old granddaughter. Only bought the single, Big Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. It is her favorite song. We were in the car and all of a sudden when it came on the radio, she was singing and knew all the words. Not suprised, Horses!

2.0 out of 5 stars Everything is allegorical
KT Tunstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" was the breakthrough "hit" for the Chinese/Scottish singer-songwriter. Once,Tunstall was the adopted child of an astronomer&his wife (hence "Eye to the Telescope"),playing in coffee shops. This song, however, skyrocketed her to fame. She performed this piece on NPR's Morning Edition, then it was performed by an American Idol...

I am very enamored of this lady. I have both the bluegrass version and this, the original, and prefer the original. Soncially, this recording has excellent presence and you can identify the location of the various instrements. Currently one of my favorite albums, and look forward to others from this artist.

She performed this piece on NPR's Morning Edition, then it was performed by an American Idol competitor&Ryan Seacrest fawned over her. Tunstall is now a smashing success, with her electrified "Drastic Fantastic."

"Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" is a quasi-folk rock song. Tunstall sings about being in the "middle of nowhere" (could she be in Iowa instead of Scotland?),and confronting the "big, black horse" and the cherry tree. The horse asks her to marry him(???) But her response is "no,no,no." Several times,Tunstall sounds like she's straining her voice. It's an annoying song. For a time,it was overplayed on Top 40 radio. She claimed it's an allegory about whether to be naughty (black horse) or be nice (cherry tree) HUH???Luckily,Tunstall is a talented singer-songwriter. While this particular track is naff, check out "Suddenly I see" and "Other side of the world."
