Black Horse & the Cherry Tree,
This review is from: Black Horse & the Cherry Tree (Audio CD)
This CD only has two songs on it. I thought that it was a full CD and was interested in hearing more of KT Tunstall's music. Black Horse & the Cherry Tree is an excellent song.

Fresh From The Tree,

I really haven't seen a whjole lot of great performers that truly rocked last year. While Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge have made some decent tracks, there really was not much with the female singer/songwriter bit. For K.T. Tunstall, she really is one of those surprising faces out right now, and her latest opening single is just delightful. Black Horse & Cherry Tree from her debut record Eye On The Telescope is a unique freshness that really delivers well. The song is exciting to listen to because it isn't like what is on radio right now, and welcomes in a real style of Blues, Soul & Rock mixed into one. I like this song a whole lot, and it is jut a good guilty pleasure on the radio right now. I hope people here welcome her with open arms, and she keeps up those great tracks like this one.

Makes Me Happy,

This song is really awesome. It rocks. If you've been looking for a song that makes you want to get up and dance, this is it. Or you can just move around in your chair. ha! It combines two different styles of singing--wooo, wooo and tunstall's ever changing throaty variations. (It's so nice to have a singer vary her voice. It adds so much more color and richness). The music and the lyrics are both cool. You have to give it a try.
The second song on the CD is very different, but quite good. It is more bluesy-folksy and you want to listen because the lyrics are good as well.

Cherry Trees and Black Horses rule okay!,

What a fabulous song! I heard it on MTV and I had to download it to my computer.
It has a folksy kind of charm and yet it is not a folk song per se. K.T. Tunstall has dry throaty voice that belts out the lyrics whilst she strums away on her guitar and you find your foot tapping away to the song whilst humming along to the rhythm. A great and unusual song for all to enjoy.

Certain songs just "grab you". Love the beat. Looked high and low for this before I found it, but it was just one song I had to have.

I wish I had understood that there were only 2 songs on this CD. A ripoff for the price.
I really like KT Tunstall, wish I had ordered Kaleidascope (sp?) instead.

I stumbled onto this song while using the "scan" feature on my car radio. I stopped the scan for the same reason drivers slow down to observe a wreck... morbid curiosity.
What a wreck. "Black Horse" is derivative. I mean, how much more 12-bar blues can the contemporary ear stand? It's stereotyped. Oh, loss of innocence... how interesting. Not. The singer's accent is affected. If you're a 20-year-old Scottish girl, don't hide that when you sing. Tell us who you really are and why we should care. You're not Muddy @#$@#ing Waters. To be fair, this is not any worse than a lot of throwaway Molly Hatchet tracks. For that matter, it's not that much worse than certain throwaway Beatle's tracks, and shares many of the same flaws. The problem is that KT Turnstall can't back up the BS, and in this particular case she seems as destined for entry level retail as she does for stardom. |
