5.0 out of 5 stars Intended to Provide Cushion & Comfort-Not Total Neck Support, July 4, 2005
This review is from: Black Knit Double Headrest (Baby Product)
I've read through some of the negative reviews this headrest has received and think many have been disappointed because they expect that this pillow can provide total support to a newborn's head and neck by itself -it won't. If you're looking, however, for something to make the carseat and swing more comfortable and cushy - this headrest is awesome! Our newborn had reflux and spent a good deal of time sleeping in his swing -so we needed something to make him extra comfortable, and I really appreciate the molded (forms to the carseat or swing!), double-layer design for this. As your baby grows, you can remove one of the layers - very neat! To provide total head and neck support for your newborn, you'll still need to roll up some receiving blankets and place them on either side of your infant. At one point, we no longer needed to use the rolled-up receiving blankets, but still kept the headrest in our swing. I think we finally put this headrest away after 6 mos. of use. Note: This headrest is not recommended for use in carseats as a result of safety concerns, so it's up to you. We did use it in our carseat for a few months (a screaming infant will make parents take desperate measures!!) Hopefully this review clears up some misconceptions about this pillow and you can make an informed decision!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good item for the first 2 months!, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Black Knit Double Headrest (Baby Product)
I like this product. I used the smaller one inside the one on his carseat to make a tighter fit around his head. We have a very steep long rought driveway and no matter how slow you drive it's a rough ride, so head and neck support was of paramount importance to me with a newborn. I found that this item did in fact have slots on the sides and velcro tabs to to secure it to his carseat, despite what other reviewers said. I also used another product in conjuction with this to hold his head and neck in place. From Wal-mart, there were these big pillow pads (like 3"w x 2.5"thick x 6" long) that velcroed to my straps on car seat just like the thinner versions would serve as covers for the straps to prevent chafing on baby's neck, these ones were called Wings, or something and they worked to keep baby's head from falling too badly to the side when sleeping for flopping completely forward. Together - they did what I needed!
