Thank You Again Funimation And Geneon For Releasing The Final Episodes Of This Great Series,
By Rich "xman" (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Vol. 1 - Limited Edition (Steelbook) (DVD)
I am definitely happy finally getting this dvd and coming closer to completing this series set. To those just getting the know the series the short version of the story is that Rock who was a Japanese business man was kidnapped by pirates and later after a few dramatic episodes joins up with his pirate kidnappers. These episodes are very dark, serious, sad, and ultimately expected for this series. The Russian mob is being targeted for destruction by the Italian mob in secret their assassins a pair or psychotic Romanian twins just children an age but because of what has happened to them totally without morals or compassion for others. The episodes show us why the twins are so demented and twisted and goes into the sickening world of pedophiles and snuff films. So for those who don't care to see such things either in a anime or show I'd advise not getting this dvd. The dvd video is wide-screen format with both Japanese and English audio to those who liked the dubbed audio the same English actors are used so don't worry and the Japanese V.A. as always did a superb job as well. So to all Black Lagoon fans rejoice the final episodes are coming to dvd and to those who are thing about this think Cowboy Bebop but much darker and you'll get the idea...

Recommended for Action Fans,
This review is from: Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Vol. 1 - Limited Edition (Steelbook) (DVD)
Well, when it comes to anime I'm a little shallow. To me the first few frames is enough for me to judge the whole series, so they have to look good. Yeah, I'm one of those guys who judge the book by the cover. But I have seen a fair share of animes in my time and I think I'm entitled to do so to avoid waste of time on crappy anime.
I can easily say that this anime looks good and it comes with great stories. It has a more serious tone than most, and characters closer to real life much like Cowboy Beebop rather than cartoonish. This is a straight action anime with lots of gun action. So no Tech-Mech, no absurd fan service, no idiotic cuties or belching gore. Plain, present day, mercenary action. Some stories are very original while some of them have a few cliche anime stuff but they are never dull. Don't expect to see an extremely deep and sinister plot but there are some 3-4 episode stories that will satisfy your hunger for ongoing excitement. I highly recommend this title. Buy it without worries.

It is a great collector's tin box, but not worth the purchase unless you're a hardcore fan

I'm under some finacial stress, but...,

Having found out that Funimation has repackaged the entire series at a great price -BUT- removing the DTS audio.
All the bonus video don't amount to a hill of beans if the actual series is ham-stringed! Geneon did a bang up job with the English track and created a incredible Fully surrounded audio environment with the English DTS track. I will now have to buy this product now since it may be the very last time it will be on Amazon at a reasonable price tag. |
