I bought this item a few years ago, before I invested in a nice desk that had a built-in file cabinet.

It has held up, and is perfectly servicable for home use. If you are going to be moving it or using it often, though, it has some drawbacks.

They are:

1) The snaps on the corners come undone quite easily. While I've never had it break completely open on me, I wouldn't want to rely on this as a file box that I'd need to move frequently or store REALLY important items in. If the snaps held better, I'd probably give this at least a four-star review. And, no, I didn't overfill it. It snaps open even when empty, though added weight doesn't help.

2) It isn't very easy to move the files "along" on their holding bars.

3) As it is black, obviously dust shows on it very quickly.

4) It's low to the ground, meaning that unless you have this sitting on a chair (or sitting by your chair), you are going to be stooping down or standing up (if you have it on a table) to look into it.

5) It couldn't withstand a tornado or other natural disaster (it feels like it's made out of plastic-covered cardboard).

6) It doesn't lock. I don't care about that for home use, but in a business setting, that's really a must.

Pros:

1) It's an inexpensive way to hold a standard file folder's box worth of papers.

2) It is portable, if you don't mind it being a little unwieldy.

3) It'll hold either legal and/or letter-size folders- not all file boxes do.

This is an inexpensive way to have storage laying out without it looking messy and cheap, like it was in my cardboard boxes! :P

I used these for storing things that I used to keep in cardboard boxes and they're really well suited for that purpose. They look much better and they're reasonably priced. If you use them with hanging file folders, the lid is a bit of a problem because of the tight fit.

I have two of these boxes, and they look fantastic on my personal desk, under my computer! I also bought some real nice looking file envelopes, and have all my bills, personal items, by alphabetical order in these wonderful boxes!
They may not look sturdy enough, but they are, beside being very elegant!
