Lita Goes Back To Basics, July 1, 2000
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
I like "Black" very much, and feel it was undeservedly un-noticed. With "Black" Lita's talented guitar playing takes the front seat. The keyboards prevalent on her previous 3 albums are only featured on a handful of tracks on "Black". This CD features something for every mood: rockers, ballads, and an instrumental too. In my opinion, the tracks "Black" and "Fall" have a grunge sound to them, which was a different musical direction for Lita. My favorite tracks are "Loverman", "Killin' Kind", and "Boilin' Point". My only disappointment with "Black" is that Lita had written with Gene Simmons, but none of their collaborations were included on the album.

Lita should be more well-known, May 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
I didn't like this CD as much as her previous three (Lita, Stiletto, Dangerous Curves) but it is still the Lita we all know and love! Kickin' hard rock mixed with smoldering ballads, all with that wonderful guitar that only Lita can play!
Since Amazon doesn't list all the songs, I will list them here:
1. Black
2. Fall
3. Loverman
4. Killin' Kind
5. Hammerhead
6. Boilin' Point
7. Where Will I Find My Heart Tonight
8. War of the Angels
9. Joe
10. White Lightnin'
11. Smokin' Toads
12. Spider Monkey
Lita does all the guitar and lead vocals (as it should be!). Liner notes have all the lyrics. Total time is 59 minutes.
Loverman and Killin' Kind are sort of a middle ground between ballad and rocker. So is Joe, a haunting song. War Of The Angels is a definite ballad. Boilin' Point is rock and roll, wild and raunchy. Hammerhead has a killer refrain and guitar solo. White Lightnin' is a rocker that will grab you and not let go! (Killer harmonica!) Smokin' Toads is an instrumental with a sort of "different" sound. Spider Monkey starts out with the sounds of them horsing around in the studio (listen carefully to the words!) and then gets into the song. It's mostly an instrumental, with some vocals and extended guitar solos. Some great organ sounds mixed in.
Favorites are Killin' Kind, Joe, White Lightnin', Spider Monkey.

This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
I love Lita Ford and I love this ablum. The song black is sexy! and Hammerhead rocks. As well as a real sad song on there Called War of the anegls that song is very touching. I am so happy that Amazon has this cd available because I was having hard time finding it. It had been out of print. Lita Rules!!!!
