4.0 out of 5 stars Lita Goes Back To Basics
I like "Black" very much, and feel it was undeservedly un-noticed. With "Black" Lita's talented guitar playing takes the front seat. The keyboards prevalent on her previous 3 albums are only featured on a handful of tracks on "Black". This CD features something for every mood: rockers, ballads, and an instrumental too. In my opinion, the tracks "Black" and "Fall" have a...

3.0 out of 5 stars I Love Lita, BUT.....
The grunge influence is more than I can bear. Also, the guitar approach is much more Fender than BC Rich...if you know what I mean. For perspective, I've been a fan since 1983 and have grown to love both the "club" rock of her first two CD's to the "arena" rock of her last three (ending with Dangerous Curves). Honestly, a re-creation of the over the top guitars and...

In my opinion, the tracks "Black" and "Fall" have a grunge sound to them, which was a different musical direction for Lita. My favorite tracks are "Loverman", "Killin' Kind", and "Boilin' Point". My only disappointment with "Black" is that Lita had written with Gene Simmons, but none of their collaborations were included on the album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lita should be more well-known, May 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
I didn't like this CD as much as her previous three (Lita, Stiletto, Dangerous Curves) but it is still the Lita we all know and love! Kickin' hard rock mixed with smoldering ballads, all with that wonderful guitar that only Lita can play!

Since Amazon doesn't list all the songs, I will list them here:

1. Black

2. Fall

3. Loverman

4. Killin' Kind

5. Hammerhead

6. Boilin' Point

7. Where Will I Find My Heart Tonight

8. War of the Angels

9. Joe

10. White Lightnin'

11. Smokin' Toads

12. Spider Monkey

Lita does all the guitar and lead vocals (as it should be!). Liner notes have all the lyrics. Total time is 59 minutes.

Loverman and Killin' Kind are sort of a middle ground between ballad and rocker. So is Joe, a haunting song. War Of The Angels is a definite ballad. Boilin' Point is rock and roll, wild and raunchy. Hammerhead has a killer refrain and guitar solo. White Lightnin' is a rocker that will grab you and not let go! (Killer harmonica!) Smokin' Toads is an instrumental with a sort of "different" sound. Spider Monkey starts out with the sounds of them horsing around in the studio (listen carefully to the words!) and then gets into the song. It's mostly an instrumental, with some vocals and extended guitar solos. Some great organ sounds mixed in.

Favorites are Killin' Kind, Joe, White Lightnin', Spider Monkey.

I love Lita Ford and I love this ablum. The song black is sexy! and Hammerhead rocks. As well as a real sad song on there Called War of the anegls that song is very touching. I am so happy that Amazon has this cd available because I was having hard time finding it. It had been out of print. Lita Rules!!!!

"Loverman" and "Joe" are so impassioned, and "Where Will I Find My Heart Tonight" is so catchy, I would've thought this CD had 'big success' all over it. Alas, it's been hard to find these past few years, and most Lita Ford fans don't even know about it. She's in great spirits throughout, and although I like the softer stuff better than "Hammerhead", I find the entire CD a great rock-and-roll journey. Lita hasn't aged or dated a bit, she's as clever and cunning and luscious as she was in 1987. A-

4.0 out of 5 stars a welcome release for the 90's, September 22, 2000
By A Customer

I liked this cd quite a bit, though joe, and fall were rather weak tracks. Lita does a fantastic job on vocals and guitar and offers splendid rock n roll on Killin Kind, Loverman, Where Will I Find My Heart Tonight and Boilin' Point. Overall a great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Black is wicked!!, February 19, 2004

With heavier cuts and Blues Lita adds new licks to the mix and makes for a f***ing versatile CD that strikes like white hot lightning! No folks this aint just a retread of the 80's sound but this sexy, soulful and sonic disc is still red hot rock and roll from the Black Widow and Queen of Noise herself and in cotrast it makes the pop tarts we are stuck with today look more pale than usual 'cause LITA F***ING ROCKS!!

For perspective, I've been a fan since 1983 and have grown to love both the "club" rock of her first two CD's to the "arena" rock of her last three (ending with Dangerous Curves). Honestly, a re-creation of the over the top guitars and anthemic vocal approach so prevalent in the late 80's / early 90's would have been much more refreshing than this effort. Other reviewers have done a great job reviewing the individual songs...this review should act merely as an overview. Bottom line - "Black" is a perfect title for this disappointing CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lita Gets The Blues, December 1, 1999
By
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
This album veers a little off the rock and roll highway on to blues avenue. Lita still serves up plently of rock-solid guitar that will "wake the neighborhood." I was most impressed with "Joe" and "White Lightening." Most true Lita fans will not be disapointed!
