5.0 out of 5 stars Great bag description does not do it justice
This bag is strong and durable. The size is large enough to fit and notebook or text book. There are a number of pockets of all sizes able to hold any item you would want to bring with you.

The back of the bag (which is not pictured) has a zippered compartment that can hold papers and has a number of pockets for items to slide into.

1.0 out of 5 stars Starting to fray
This bag took a little getting used to, mostly because it has two fronts. But I gave it a shot. There are loose threads everywhere, one of the velcro pads fell off, and the one corner is fraying badly. Return policy says too...

1.0 out of 5 stars Flawed, September 9, 2007

This bag looked perfect for school, bought it for my child. After less than a week, the shoulder strap broke at the place where the ring was attached to the bag. My child then carried the bag by the handle, which also broke three days later. As cool as the bag looks, and as sturdy as it appears, it is not strong enough to hold up as a book bag.

1.0 out of 5 stars Strap ripped off after a month, January 16, 2008

I was pretty happy with this bag at first, felt very sturdy, and perfect size for my 12" iBook. After about a month though the stitches that keep the metal ring that the strap gave out and sent my bag tumbling down a set of concrete steps with my laptop in it, which thankfully survived unscathed.

I was never rough with the bag and never carried more than 5-7 or so pounds of things in it. Maybe I was just unlucky but I can't really recommend this one.

Great bag - until the metal twist clasp popped off! Now it's useless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed, May 3, 2007

I bought this as a gift for myself and had I rated it the first month I had it, it would have been a rave review....now it's useless. The latch that held the cover closed(which is attached to the handle) broke off. Now I can't close it and can't hold it cause the handle's attached to the flap.

Also about a week prior to the latch braking, the loop that holds the buckle from the shoulder strap wripped off and the shoulder strap became useless as well.

I would highly recommend finding a higher quality bag.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS BAG!!!!, October 18, 2007

This has to be the worst thing I've bought in a long time. I don't know what engineers use this, but hopefully it's not our military! This thing would fall apart in days. It has single stitching, pockets that are sewn so that they are not even usable, pockets that are not properly sized, everywhere there is Velcro it is positioned in the wrong spot. The handle, strap, and clasp have to be the chintziest and cheapest things ever. It's like someone hired a bunch of kids to put together these things with the cheapest materials they could find!

If I could have gave this bag a zero I would have.

DO NOT BUY THIS BAG!!! You are warned!

The back of the bag (which is not pictured) has a zippered compartment that can hold papers and has a number of pockets for items to slide into.

This bag would be useful both at school and going around town.

The only downside might be that, given the heavyweight material used to make the bag, it is a bit heavy. But this does not affect it enough to alter the rating.

I would recommend this bag to anyone who wants a functional and cool looking bag for everyday use.

(Please note that I bought the black bag. The olive one looks to be the same design, but I cannot directly comment on that one.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy, June 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this bag initially to help me carry all my engenieering and school stuff during summer when I'm doing self study and don't need the whole backpack. Its so convienant I've ended up packing a lot more into it than I had originally intended on doing. To give you an idea of how well it can expand to fit almost everything you could ever need, I've got:
1 Laptop
2 math books
3 novels
2 pencils
2 pens
2 graphing note books
1 pack of smokes and a lighter
2 pencil sharpeners
1 calculator

That setup has it filled pretty much to its maxium capacity lol. The material seems to be great, I waited over a month to write this review to see if any tears or breaks would show up, and so far, none have.

For those guys who want one, but are afraid of the "murse" (man purse) status, rest assured the plain black with nothing shiny or 'loud' muffle any comments. All I really have to say about that argument is Convenience > Insecurites :)

That being said, all in all, I'm hard press to find a flaws. Now if only it could magically make everything in it lighter . . .

1.0 out of 5 stars poor construction, January 28, 2008

The metal closure on this bag is difficult to
close properly - and when not closed, the bag doesn't hang
right from the strap - gapes open lop-sidedly.
Also the pen holders are sewn too-small to be of any use.
Looks a lot better in the picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome bag!, April 28, 2007
This review is from: Black M-51 Engineers Field & Laptop Bag (Apparel)
I just got this bag as a birthday gift. It's really an amazing bag. Lots and LOTS of room inside without being bulky or overly heavy. This bag has many, many, MANY compartments, pockets, and dividers. The really great thing is that all of the pockets are different sizes, giving you a lot of options as to where you want to store gadgets and other items. The canvas looks very nice - the olive is a nice, deep almost velvety green color. The bag seems to be extremely well made - it seems very durable, and I have no doubt it will serve me well for many years!

I asked for this bag for my birthday because I now commute about 90 miles round trip every day for work. I need to have a lot of various things with me in case I need them since I can't just pop home during my workday anymore. I'm also an artist...okay, no, I'm a doodler...and I wanted a bag large enough to hold a sketchbook, some pencils, a sharpener, pens, etc., for those times when I get an idea in the middle of the day that I want to sketch out, and also large enough to hold my normal purse-type items. This bag is plenty large to do all of that and more. I thought my current "day pack" was roomy and had a lot of pockets until I found this bag. The M-51 Engineer's Field Bag is the best day pack type bag that I've ever seen, honestly. If you like to have your stuff organized and easy to find, and you have a lot of stuff to haul around, you will not regret buying this bag.
