As a trained research historian, I was rather shocked that no attempt was made to show from where the author obtained his material. He gives many quotes without telling anything about where they came from. Therefore, it is more like historical fiction than history or even biography to me. However, if that doesn't bother you, it is very well written and sympathetic to a rather neglected and talented composer. As I enjoy his music that has been recorded, I can
admire the attempt to make him better known. |
