Editorial Reviews

After his departure from Deep Purple in 1993, Ritchie Blackmore reformed Rainbow with a new line-up and went into the studio to record the acclaimed Stranger In Us All album. The band then took to the road for an extensive tour which included this 1995 live concert in Dusseldorf filmed & recorded for Germany's famous Rockpalast TV series. The set features several tracks from the Stranger In Us All album alongside classic Rainbow and Deep Purple tracks. The band are on blistering form and Ritchie Blackmore shows just why he is so revered as a guitarist. This previously unreleased show is a great addition to any Rainbow fan's collection.

Line-Up:
Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Doogie White (vocals); Candice Night (vocals); Paul Morris (keyboards); Greg Smith (bass); Chuck Burgi (drums)

Customer Reviews

It is a very good version of the song as Doogie does a good job with the vocals.
Steve Cavallaro
Glad I can put away my bootleg cassette for an official version with better sound - this CD will get lots of use.
EWG
The good points are: the vocals are good, Ritchie Blackmore's playing is astounding as usual.
R. Wright

Its about time this gets an official release, Blackmore is in top form, and Doogie White can sing any era Rainbow and sound good. Ritchie puts his energy into playing the guitar, and is right on throughout, the band is solid as well, a document of the end of Ritchies rock era, just a great showcase.

I make no bones about it. I love Rainbow!! Every incarnation. From the Dio years to Doogie White. Sure, we know Mr. Blackmore changed band members faster than some changed their own underwear. And we know ALL the stories of the famous (or infamous) attitudes and opinions. But, you have to admit that Ritchie could build a great band and bring to the forefront some real great unknown musicians. I believe Doogie White had to fill some LARGE shoes when Ritchie put the band back together in the early/mid nineties. He also did it when the grunge scene was in full swing. "Stranger In Us All" didn't seem to have the support the label should have put behind it. But, the critics had their say and it's too bad they won. This CD shows us this Rainbow was running on all 8 cylinders and it shows Ritchie was not going down without a fight. The music is tight, the vocals are spot-on even if they did need to drop the key down 2 or 3 steps on a couple of tunes. Ritchie's playing is articulate and up-to-par and the explosive end-of-show fireworks is gone. I may need to drop the dime and get the DVD of this show. I didn't know what to expect when I gave this a listen but all doubt left quickly. From "Spotlight Kid" to "Smoke On The Water", Doogie is really the frontman and Ritchie should have felt blessed to have him front this version of Rainbow. I feel this belongs in every Rainbow fans collection.

Essential for die hard Blackmore fans. This is my second favorite Rainbow line-up (after the Rising era one,) so I may be a bit biased. It's nice to finally get live versions of the "Stranger In Us All" tracks on a legit release.

I saw this tour in Las Vegas at the Huntridge Theater, its an old plush Movie Theater they turned into a concert hall, its small, interment, comfortable and great venue for concerts; Blackmore and company just tour it up. Blackmore was on fire, maybe knowing he was going in another musical direction soon thereafter. This concert from Germany catches the essence of this tour and how on fire Blackmore was. Its a great set and a must have for Every Blackmore fan.

Not an essential live recording, but not a dud either. This concert was a party and it is evident by listening to this. Blackmore is in fine rocking electric form throughout, and it's a delight to hear! Doogie White, how can imitate many of Blacmore's former vocalists shows off his pipes on this concert. I love all eras of Rainbow, and while this leans heavy on the Dio years which is appreciated, to me, there is not enough of the Joe Lynn Turner era. Maybe a few more JLT era songs, and a few less Purple songs would be welcomed, but what is, is what it is. A fine recording, but neither here nor there. Essential for Blackmore and Doogie White fans, but not for casual fans.

I am a long time Blackmore fan and used to have a decent bootleg collection back in the vinyl days, so I have heard a lot of Ritchie live and seen him quite a few times over the years (including in Kansas City on this tour). This is a great concert with everyone in the band "on" and Ritchie in a very good mood. Some of my favorite live Blackmore solos are from this concert. Glad I can put away my bootleg cassette for an official version with better sound - this CD will get lots of use.

I've always been a Ritchie blackmore fan, especially his rainbow project
with various vocalists. this has a little of all the eras with a different vocalist
who seems to pull it off o.k.
Pretty decent for a live album!!!

Yawn. I'll take the video over this.
Yeah, I hate this fad of producing the audio from something that was meant as a home video only, not to mention from from something that was just meant as a TV broadcast and not even produced for home video as in this case. You know the sound is going to suck.
