5.0 out of 5 stars Great rucksack., February 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a super rucksack. The CFP-90 was developed by the US Army circa 1990 and fielded to Special Forces and light/airborne/air assault infantry type units. This is a reasonable copy of the military-issued CFP-90s. The black color is nice if you don't want people to think you are in the military or a right-wing militiaman or something. I don't know why the military didn't stick with this design and field it more widely. This rucksack is so much lighter than the current MOLLE rucksack, which is heavy as hell before you put the first thing in it. Backpackers don't want a heavy rucksack. If anything, this CFP-90 backpack is even lighter than the military issued ones. It is very comfortable to wear. It is very durable, like most military-inspired products. I only recently bought this, but I've checked it as airline baggage twice already and it has emerged unscathed. You know how baggage handlers treat luggage. Also, nothing spilled out of any of the pockets of the rucksack, despite the fact that it was almost certainly tossed around upside down etc. The main difference I see between this rucksack and the military issued CFP-90 is the GI rucksack has a screw so you can adjust the straps depending on the length of your torso, and on this one the top of the shoulder straps are sewn in place. Since I am an average-sized guy, removing the screw assembly just saves weight for me. If you are unusually long or short in the torso, this might not be a good thing. I am extremely happy with this rucksack and give it the highest possible rating. Use it for backpacking and for luggage. It beats dragging a little wheeled suit case through the airport like a girlie-man.
