Book Description

September 1, 2008
This story begins on the infamous Black Monday, October 19, 1987. As the stock market is taking a nosedive and banks and S&L's are falling left and right, Stan is asked by the CIA to help an operative unravel an IRS garnishment and ends up caught in a fire-fight between the CIA and the FBI. His day grows more complicated still as he receives the surprising news that he has been named as the executor of the estate of one Lottie West, who has died in suspicious circumstances and who--Stan soon discovers--has been hiding priceless art treasures stolen during World War II. So the last thing Stan needs is a visit from his law partner, Paula Waters, who tells him she wants to defend the man accused of killing the chairman of one of Dallas' troubled thrifts. And it's only Monday...

More About the Author

I'm originally from Ventura, California where I grew up during the 50s and 60s. My wife Janet and I were married while I was attending UCLA and she was attending nursing school. We immediately started having children and had three boys and a girl by the time I graduated from SMU Law School. With four young children we decided to stay in Dallas, where we had family and friends, rather than returning to California. I started law practice in the late 70's and today practice consumer law with my son, Jim. About twelve years ago I took on a famous romance author as a client and, after working with her for a while, I started wondering if I could write a novel myself. Eventually I gave it a shot and found I really enjoyed the writing process. After that it only took a few generous reviews of my first novel and I was hooked. My current novel, Tarizon: Civil War is my fourteenth and my goal is to continue to write a novel a year for the rest of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Settle down to a good mystery from an excellent writer, September 17, 2005
I became a fan of William Manchee with his novel Plastic Gods. One of the tightest plots and best writing styles I had seen in quite a while I indicated that it would have been one of the best fiction books of the year except for such poor editing that it only received an average review. It appears that his editing problems are resolved with another publisher and his strong style shows through in this novel as well. The scene is set on Black Monday, October 19, 1987. As the stock market crashes and bank after bank collapses the hero, Stan Turner, is asked to unravel a small IRS problem for an FBI agent. Unfortunately, this starts his problems as he is caught up in a fight between the FBI and the CIA. With a multitude of well-crafted sub-plots and a writing style that keeps the reader glued to the book, William Manchee has really crafted a masterpiece of mystery. Always keeping the reader guessing though each twist and turn this is one of the most exciting novels I've read this year. Black Monday is highly recommended to everyone who enjoys passing the evening with a good mystery.
