Master of the epic soul interpretation,
By
This review is from: Black Moses (Audio CD)
On "Black Moses", Isaac Hayes is at the height of his musical powers. He takes some classic song material and makes it his own, exploding the compositions, laying them out with confident care, and delivering to you the sort of soul that takes its time to good effect. Along with amazing re-intetrpretations, this album also features "Ike's Rap II", which was sampled on Portishead's track, "Glory Box". This isn't the only Isaac Hayes album you should own, but it's one of them... if you count yourself as a soul fan.

So Doggone Good!,
By
This review is from: Black Moses (Audio CD)
My grandmother got me this album since it was on sale at some point during the 1970s. The LP has an interesting design which features the cover picture in sort of a tripartite structure. My grandma soon regretted this purchase and began to develop an active dislike for "Black Moses." This may in part be due to the fact that I played this album to death. I recently re-discovered it and remembered why I liked it so much: about 90% of Ike's covers are great and delivered in his inimitable soulful way. Even though most songs are associated with other artists, Ike brings his unique approach to each one of them. And he seems to shun recording songs that are less than eight minutes long. So if you like a lot of Ike and tales of "good love gone bad," do yourself a favor and buy this doggone good album!

The CD is absolutely awesome!,

I bought the Black Moses album 26 years ago; I lost the album about seven years after I bought it in 1972. Twenty-six years later I purchased the CD and it's still awesome. "Black Moses" is a genuine masterpiece! Isaac Hayes is only one of his kind...very soulful, well organized with articulated vocals like no other. I will never lose such a classic again out of my collection. Isaac Hayes, my brother, I solute you now and always!
