(3+half) Sadat still shines through BLACK OCTOBER!,
By
This review is from: Black October (Audio CD)
After "Experience & Education" my faith in real hiphop was restored that the real mc's were still there, just abit stiffled at the moment. So when I seen that "Black October" was arriving so soon I was nearly hyperventilating in anticipation. One thing that struck me was that it wasnt as cohesive or strong as its predecessor. That being said its still an awesome body of work that Sadat should be fully proud of. Its honesty in light of what he's going through is startling at times. The production is the only place that this album loses marks b'cuz Sadat's rhymes are some of the best he's spit in his entire career, period!!! Tracks like "Million Dolla Deal", "Untraceable", "On The Come Thru" and the truely aweful "My Mind" destroy what couldve been a classic all b'cuz of very lackluster beats. That said, the remainder of this album is nothing short of perfection with such standouts as "Black October", "Throw the Ball", "X is a Machine", "Eternally Yours" (my favourite) and the Brand Nubian reunion joint "Chosen few". With the rest of the tracks not mentioned also at a very strong high level you're spoiled for choice. Cop this and "Experience & Education" and you wont be disapointed.

First off, If you don't know the history and the events leading up to this LP do your homework. As for me, I've been down w/Sadat since Brand Nubian and will continue to support him until he comes home. Black October showcases a wide range of lyrical abilities. Storytelling, Hip Hop Braggadocio, & a Personal Look into his life. The beats are fantastic and I wouldn't understand why any hip hop fan would not appreciate this modern masterpiece. Support quality Hip Hop music and buy this today. Peace!

3.5 Dope LP leading up to Sadat's prison time.,

This review is from: Black October (Audio CD)
This LP was put out right before Sadat was sent upstate for a year for gun charges. After releasing his "Experience & Education" LP, Sadat suffered a year of setbacks, letdowns and ultimately prison time. This album chronicles Sadat before he's about to go to jail and in many ways works as a companion to the "Experience & Education" LP. (being that it also features a couple sequel/remixes to tracks that appeared on the Experience album) You can expect the regulars on the production with this album (Diamond D, Beatminerz and DJ Spinna,) but there's also contributions from Moss, J-Zone and up and coming beatmakers.
Ultimately, "Experience & Education" is a better LP, but "Black October" has a depth and dark sound to it that "Experience" doesn't offer. In many ways you can't appreciate one album without hearing the other because they work well together showing Sadat's journey leading up to his jail time. Hopefully, "The Healing Process" will pick up where "October" leaves off and bring closure to a pseudo trilogy of LP's documenting Sadat's life. (basically picture it as a real life version of Masta Ace's last 2 LPs)
