5.0 out of 5 stars Real Music. Making Seattle Proud., August 5, 2008
This review is from: Black Patch War (Audio CD)
I am a native of Seattle and honestly I can say that I am proud of Ra Scion and Sabzi for coming together to make a classic music once again. As always Sabs on the beats, and they are wonderful. They really sound polished and for a dude to experiment with sampling himself, he is gifted at mastering it. Ra Scion's flow is amazing as it is his more clear and conscious rhymes since the debut. Bring on Tobacco Road!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Fiyyah!, June 29, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Black Patch War (Audio CD)
Going to keep this short but sweet, similar to the CD ; RA Scion sounds just as good as ever with heavily inspiring & deep lyricism laced over some of the best sabzi beats I've heard!! theyre just ridiculous!
The EP has a nice contast with some seriously "bangin' layered tracks (Black Patch War, His Eminence & Trouble is) whilst also providing some laid back yet groovy reflective tracks (bonanza).
Basically, this is some of the most refreshing music I have heard in a long while and is a must for those who appreciate pure thought provoking music. Whilst it may be short, every second is quality, satisfying hip hop. GET THIS!!!

This is the kind of hip-hop the world is missing. We need more of this. Intelligent and talented, no wonder radio doesn't play it.

4.0 out of 5 stars RA Scion & Sabzi deliver the goods!, May 30, 2008
This review is from: Black Patch War (Audio CD)
I first came in contact with this Seattle-based duo by way of their Massline label counterparts Blue Scholars (Geologic & Sabzi). Hands down, Sabzi is one of my favorite beat-makers of the new millennium, and I never miss any beat he touches. Common Market's self-titled debut quickly became one of my favorite records of 2006, so this EP was greeted with high anticipation for this listener.

There's only 7 songs here (22 minutes), but every one is excellent, and nothing is even near skippable. A few of them rank as my favorite songs the duo has ever created. Simply put, RA Scion & Sabzi are in top form. It's all quality, but the major standouts are "Black Patch War", "Watership Down" & "Bonanza".

For those that are fans of the duo, this EP should really be a no-brainer - a must buy. This material is every bit as (and maybe more) potent than their critically acclaimed debut. One thing is for certain - they got me steadily drooling for their upcoming sophomore full-length "Tobacco Road".
