5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, frank, and honest August 29, 2006
By Marron
Format:Paperback
I met the author of this book while she was selling copies on Venice Beach in L.A., and I bought it because I was curious and because the author seemed so appealing. The title is kind of hokey, but the book discusses sensitive issues (e.g. black people's feelings about immigrants, their supposed "paranoia" about racial issues), as well as lighter ones (e.g. black men's love of large butts), with thoughtfulness, political astuteness (in my humble opinion), frankness, and clarity. A lot of the questions in the book are those many non-Blacks have wondered about but were afraid to ask, lest they be accused of racism. Besides that, the book is well written, and the author has a good sense of humor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting November 14, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book raises many questions that many non black people have never thought about as well as some that are never thought about and answers them in a very non esoteric way that everyone can understand. Almost as if the author is conversing directly with you instead of speaking down to you from some self gratifying high ground as many authers do when it comes to writting about race. Very quick and enjoyable read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what it appeares June 5, 2011

This book popped up in the "People who ordered this book also liked. . ." section while I was looking at the book 'Stuff White People Like'. Stuff White People Like is a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek book looking at the culture of white people. Absolutely recommend this book to anyone. It's brilliant. When I clicked on Why Do Black People Like Fried Chicken and looked at the chapter list it looked like the same thing. 'Why are blacks sneaky/lazy?' 'Why are so many black men in prison?'. It was written by "your Black friend" who had taken a pen name that is very ethnic sounding. It was advertised along with Stuff White People Like. I thought it would be the same type of joke-y tone. It is NOT. This is a serious book. There is nothing wrong with that, if that if what you are expecting. If your looking for tongue-in-cheek, this is not it.
